Very sad

I learned about axle stands at a very early age, when I was about 12 I was really into the mechanical side of cars and used to watch my neighbour (two doors away) messing with his old Austin 1100. He couldn't open his bonnet without me landing on his drive, one day exactly the same thing happened to him and he was trapped under the car, I raised the alarm and a couple of neighbours lifted it off him, luckily for him he got away with it.

Land Rover have decided to save weight on the new Range Rover and removed the bottle jack and replaced it with a scissor jack.

2 and a half ton on a scissor jack

RIP .

thats terrible RIP to your mate.

If going underneath always have a failsafe even with a proper trolley jack should also have stands or even have a couple of wheels with tyres just in case.

RIP to the guy that died

Sorry to hear that matey, rip your mate.
I refuse to go under a car even if it had 4 axle stands 1 at each corner.
The best £15 I ever spent was on a old railway sleeper, cut into squares, and use these instead of axle stands, I use the axle stands to support stuff like exhaust etc, but not car.
I suppose the sleepers having 100 ton+ locos going on them a car weight won't bother them!!
