hi what it is its a 1.9 diesel 306 on 78000 miles ,i drove the car to town running fine no probs but when i went back to the car started it and started driving,found that it was feeling underpower'ed so thought umm put my foot down to the floor,
got a load of black smoke and the engine sounded noisey,
not like nocking or anything just like a noisey diesel but with no go,

ive checked for air leaks etc but nothing,
has any 1 had this problem as its confusing me to hell,

1 thought i did have is that maybe the diesel pump has skipped a tooth but not sure

any ideas on this would help me big time

Is it a turbo diesel?

Pull the airfilter out and see what that looks like, also make sure there is no blockages in the ducting to the filter housing, you are right in that a lot of smoke means it's overfueling, I have seen the intercoolers go on these, usually notable by oilstains.

no its non turbo and the filter and ducting is all clear,its got me baffled,lol it only smokes alot when i put the foot to the floor

Try the fuel filter, easy and cheap to replace, had it a couple of times on my old 306

egr valve stuck open giving you the strange noise aswell as engine trying to run on spent gases , (diesel version of pinking) or if it dosent have one and its got the plastic manifold throttle body set up make sure the flap is opening as the linkage can break and flap dosent open but throttle still feels the same , remove inlet pipe and check
