Default New daily driver suggestions

With my current contract coming to an end am looking at travelling to Aberdeen for work.

Therefore considering I may need a diesel and 4x4 at tha cos of the weather am thinking about an 2 litre A4 S-line quattro but have noticed for the same money (approx 13k) could get a much newer Mitsubishi Lancer GS4 Diesel.

Just wondering what else there is other than these too. Am after something sporty, with good build quality & reliability, 4x4 and diesel but preferably not a pickup/landrover type thing as I will still want fun on the twistys.

Not after much lol but just wondering in case I may have overlooked something else.

Depends on the driver IMO, passed plenty stuck and sliding 4x4's in the M5. Some people just haven't got a clue and severe lack of clutch control.

Subaru Legacy or Forrester. Either turbo form or flat 6.

Although I fancy a Volvo XC70 myself. Maybe not the sportiest thing around, but I like em.

Good suggestions guys.

The Audi I have my eye on is a 57 plate 170 bhp TDi S-line quattro and doubt it would depreciate anywhere near as much as a newer Lancer.

Not local to Aberdeen am in Dunfermline so at least 2 hours drive north.

Good shout on the jag I forgot about that one but now you mention it I remember seeing a review on top gear.

Aye the forester would be good but a bit ugly have heard their diesels suck.

Diesel X-Types are FWD.. its only the big petrol engines that get the 4WD unfortunately.

Cheers,
Grant

Really, looks like I fail at suggesting!
My old mans got the petrol soverign version, I just assumed it came as 4x4 in a Diesel too, but according to Wikipedia you are correct, the diesel is FWD only.
