3D tv people
Been reading this:
http://gizmodo.com/5084121/giz-explains-3d-technologies
About the different types of 3d TV, just wondered which people had?
Not actaully looking to buy yet as Im moving house at somepoint in the near future and will buy a TV then to suit rather than get one now that might not be right size or style in the next house etc, just interested in what people have gone for and what they think of it so far?

Care to expand on that Danneth? (Not disagreeing that 3D TV is a bit gimmicky, just seems you know more..!)

Indeed, the technology doesnt seem to have found a level yet, I think that anything bought now is liable to be looking very dated very soon.
Like I said, not actually interested in buying yet anyway (not moving for about a year or so I expect and it will be after that) just interested in general.

Oh dear. I am just about to buy this http://www.johnlewis.com/230973912/Product.aspx
Is it not a good idea?
I thought it looked superb...but compared to my 7 year old pioneer plasma just about ANYTHING looks superb
This tv can convert normal 2d tv to 3d which IS gimicky and not very good. But the 3d blu rays i've seen it play looked 'as good as it gets' - As did my plasma back in 2003.
The problem (for want of more appropriate words) with technology is, it continues to develop and largely improve which is progress. I think eventually you have to buy the best available for your budget, when you are ready to buy.

If you like the tv though and are happy go for it, just dont be drawn into the whole 3D tv's the best things out atm, because there not and deffo not worth the extra money for the "3D" all imo of course.

Dont know who told you that, but sadly you still do, the sets are getting better all the time but while they seem to cure one thing with the 3d tv's they end up with another problem :-(
But for most people its about saying they have a 3D tv anyway always a winner with the neighbours

Well the one I tried (sony setup) I got NONE of those effects at all mate, and TBH I dont really see how you can given that you are only ever looking at one image at a time!
Its actually just a normal TV, you just only look at it one eye at a time on alternate refresh rates.

I have 2 of these, not really bothered about the 3D. The TV itself is stunning.
I can count on one hand the number of times I have actually watched anything in 3D. 2D picture is really good, but the selling point was the look of the thing when it is off!!

My thinking for buying 3d is;
1. Number of films shown 3d in the cinema has increased loads - The kids, mrs and I like watching them
2. 3d Blu rays are readily available
3. I personally didn't, don't think its a fad product
4. Avatar 3d seeing is believing!
Probably a load more but running out of time here.
If you have a 'heads up' spill the beans before I do what I did in March which was get the 3gs just as the 4 was launched
Subtext - 3GS is still an awesome bit of kit imo.

Chip wouldn't blame you, I was told they were LED TV's when I bought them, when in fact they are only edge lit by LED or something. 'Apparently' the only full LED TV's are LG, but that is also probably bollocks from the sales person.

So I'll probably just stick with them for that reason.
Can honestly say I have never been unhappy with any Sony product.

Got only Sony TV's at the moment and always been really happy with them, in fact I think its probably over 10 years since Ive had anything other than a Sony TV now.
So I'll probably just stick with them for that reason.

Ok, I think we ALL know that anyway mate, but thanks for stating the obvious

So you are trying to make the worlds most obvious point that being an early adopter of ANY latest technology will mean that you buy a product that is a bad quality/cost ratio compared to the generation that comes after it?

Im sure that model is not full LED backlit just edge? which for such a large screen would concern me about Picture Quality !

Exactly as I was told it in Curry's at the weekend. Have to say the LG TV i was shown was equally superb, almost frameless but, as I said to the rep, LG? Really! You can turn the illuminated logo off on the front sir

I think it's a gimmick that will slowly peter out. The fact that they're being massively discounted already speaks volumes to me. It's just handy that the TVs can display good 2D images, so you've not really lost anything by buying one. The main issue, for me and many others, is the specs - I don't want to wear glasses as I watch telly, and what if you actually wear glasses, surely that's a bit awkward?
HD yes, 3D no (IMO obviously).
I also am not majorly impressed with 3D-ness, it's like there are several 2D layers overlayed to give a 3D effect. While it's quite fun at times, it's not for me, and it's definitey not a reason to spend lots of money on.

What I meant, was "what have people gone for, and what since buying it do they think of it"
Is that clear enough for you now?
Rather than "people who havent got one please spurt out random general statements"
I.e I was actually looking specifically for what people's experiences of owning the different types of TV were (specifically active shutter glasses versus the polarized options and the relative benefits of one versus the other)
Apologies if somehow it was because my post wasnt clear enough that you are filling the thread up with shite and generalisations, I will try and make it more idiotproof the next time I post a thread of this nature.
