Back in 200 my mate had an xr3i that constantly had a wet passenger foot well. Due to battery tray maybe?!

Anyway he used to take the car to Asda and use the hoover and hoover the fucker out. I'm sure the water wasn't great for the hoover but it wasn't his so fuck it!

Dehumidifier should help!

SteveB 16-11-2010 06:59 AM

I had this problem years ago and used 2 hairdriers..... left them in there all day on low setting with the window open slightly to let the air in/out. Failing that the only real way is carpet out and dry it out that way.

empty a bag of rice on it

JamesH 16-11-2010 08:05 AM

Some good suggestions guys :top:

Fook someone elses hoover  no asda/tesco etc rent hoovers round here :(

I had a dehumidifier in the car all last night, it has helped, but not got much (about 2/3 pint, don't think the ambient is on my side, will see if I can get a garage to put it in over the weekend with the dehumidifier in

Hairdryers sounds a bit dangerous to me! and I can't rig stuff up on it during the day as I have to get to work in it :wall:

Bag of rice...you taking the piss or will it actually work? Obviously it will make quite a mess but willing to clear it up if it will...

I've got a wet vac james

Mk1 Mex 16-11-2010 10:17 AM

When i had my M3 Cab i had a leak in the roof hatch completely flooded the rear of the car.

Process i used was.

1) Went to a clean park and used thier wet vac to suck up as much water as poss.
2) Stripped most of the interoir out and lifted the carpet.
3) Hired a (large) dehumidifier and bought some electric heaters
4) i Put the dehumidifier in the front of the car and the heaters in the back on low heat blowing towards the front of the car.
5) Covered the car with a car cover and left it all running for about 3 - 4 days (obvisously check twice a day to make sure all was OK).

Using this process i filled up THREE buckets of water.

Hope this helps mate...

Barney

Was he Conor Mcleod of the clan Mcleod, the immortal dude from Highlander? I didn't realise XR3i's were that old.

strip the carpet out, only real way of getting all the moisture out.

took my Focus carpet a whole day in 26 degree heat to dry out, it must have had 7-8kg of water in it.....it all gets absorbed by the sound deadening, which is has a rubber top layer so you cant use a vacuum to get rid the water content....

had to do the same with both my ERST's on different occasions, seems all fords leak at some point

Running our own business in marquees, we sometimes get carpets being wet near the entrances etc.

We often use a rug doctor machine to literally suck out water from the carpets. It comes with a hand held attachment to. Makes a huge difference.

The machine are available to hire from places like homebase and B&Q

Cheers guys, I've just been out to the car and it does look a bit better than yesterday :)

I'm borrowing Alex's wetvac tonight so we will see how we get on. Really don't want to take the carpet up as it means stripping the interior out etc :wall:

tabetha 16-11-2010 04:36 PM

Rice was not a wind up, it does work, better than anything else mentioned here, but either way carpet need coming up, newspaper also absorbs water very well, and is free, if yesterdays, just remember to cut out page 3!!
