Default 2003 mondeo what do I need to look out for?

Thinking about buying a 03-53 plate mondeo need to know what problems they have, would a 2.0 be better than 1.8 and do they have a cambelt or a chain?

Any info would really help me out cheers.

2.0 is better, but they facelifted them at around that age so buy a newer one if you can, it's got the triangle foglights rather than the round ones, and the square full double din head unit rather than the round 1.5 din one

other than that, rusty door bottoms and knocking suspension anddodgy subframe bushes are the main culprits

Don't know of any common problems with them apart from the DMF and injector problems but that's the Diesels. I am pretty sure both of what you have said are chain driven.

I would think the 1.8 is a bit underpowered personally 123HP wheras the 2.0 is 142HP so I should think the extra power might be appreciated.

I had a 51 plate 2.0 Zetec hatch for 6 years. Only things that went wrong in that time were thermostat and rear caliper stuck on. I heard that was a problem with that model but it may have been sorted by 03-53.
Apart from that, it took a lot of stick being a company car carrying a lot of tools and heavy parts for CNCs but still drove sweet when it was replaced.

Ask if the swirl flaps have ever been checked in the inlet manifold and they have been known to let go and wreck the engine. It happened to me.
