Really P'd off.
 

Basically the story goes like this...

I am currently trading in my old Yamaha 125 today for a Honda Cbr600. So out of goodwill I decided to put my bike in for a service yesterday so its all nice and fresh for the new owner.

Anyway, yesterday I pick the bike up and ride it back to my house which is about 3 miles from the bike place. Didnt notice anything different apart from the choke automatically shutting off... normally have to turn it off myself.

Anyway, this morning I thought I would go out into the garage and give the old girl one final clean before she is picked up tonight.

I decide to start her and notice that she is running lumpy and the choke not really doing anything. Never had any problems before as its only done a few thousand miles.

It starts to bother me as to why its running lumpy.. surely after a service it should be sweet as a nut. So off I go and break open the tool box and decided to look at the spark plug. Out it comes, and it is clearly a new spark plug but the end of it looks burnt with an oil deposit around the end.

I dont know much about mechanics but even I knew that it wasnt right. Scratching my head I decided to check the engine oil.. Well, I undone the cap and the oil was virtually at the top of the threaded bit.

How the fook can people be allowed to work on other peoples things when they cant even do a simple oil change. As I say I dont know much about mechanics, but even I know too much oil can lead to a world of hurt.

So with the dealer on way to come and collect my bike, I have had to sit out there and drain about a litre from the engine. Fortunately it seems to be running a lot better now and I just hope it hasnt damaged the engine.

Where do you think I stand if the dealer starts the bike in a week or so and the engine just pisses oil everywhere?

What would you guys do.

If i was trading a bike in through a dealer i certainly wouldn't have bothered getting it serviced for a start lol, unless that was part fo the deal of course.
It sounds like you're not selling it on to a new owner direct so to speak so wouldn't worry tbh, let the dealer deal with any problems that crop up, it was fine when you gave it to them ;)!

no, he sid it was a private sale but he got it main dealer servied the day before to ensure it was tiptop for the new private owner.

deffo explain to the bloke buying it, he wont be pissed.

and get the sodding dealer to put it 100% to your satisfaction at their cost!

Just gone out there again, still not 100% but it runs.. got a little bit of a miss.

If the oil was to the top the engines probably fucked

On a yam 125? You must be joking,I bet it won't have damaged it in anyway at all,dont worry about it fella,you paid to have it serviced,you have the recipt therefore any probs with the service can be taken up with the garage who serviced it by the dealer your p/x ing it with.

Out of interest,did you check the oil with the bike totally upright,ie not on the side stand as this can make a huge difference on a bike as the oil amount on a bike is quite small.

i'd say thats more of a 50/50

it all depends on how long it's been run for, the OP says 3 miles odd so if he hasn't over revved it it could be ok,

i reckon the service dealer had drained the old oil and replaced to near full then forgot to drain the excess

imo having owned/serviced/repaired & airbrushed bikes for 10 years it would need a full engine flush and another part service like spark plug and probably the fuel filter for peace of mind

if it were me, i would of got straight onto the phone to the dealer and demanded they arrange collection/delivery that day to rectify it however now youve done it you've unfortunately got no comeback fella

In that case you weren't having it serviced through 'goodwill' as it was part of the deal, does seem odd that the dealer wouldn't want to service it themselves and give you a little less money to compensate for it though!
Ultimately you did pay for your bike to be serviced though so whoever you took it to should be having some stern words really, muppets!!

If oils got on the plug and caused it to miss a few beats it needs a new plug end of, they never recover from this, well not seen one in 30 years or so work 100% afterwards.
The problem is with overfilling engines is if it goes through a cat, that will be knackered, if there is enough crank pressure present the oil can get past the rings, I've done this myself on an old escort to experiment, driving was fine too many revs and it sucked oil up past the rings smoked worse than del boys van, and would only stop when turned off, then restarted fine with slight miss from plugs.
