ok guys as you know i was building a viper powered kit car, well due to buggering off to america thats had to stop, was thinking as i have the engine and gearbox anyway, what should i fit it to for a bit of fun, maybe a sierra!!!! the rad would have to move forward as close to bumper as poss, but i wouldn't need an intercooler, so should be enouigh space, i think i measured it once and the viper engine will come to the or maybe just touch the slam panel, might have to spacer the crossmember down a little to get the sump in, what do you guys think, its remapped to around about 550bhp and 600lbs ft, with no turbos so no lag, would go for the 8.8 diff in the rear as i have a spare one. do you think i should do it.

saff, cheap to try it on, dont mind cutting 1 up for clearance,
then if its ok and your into it, you could always stick in in a 3dr(i'd stick with the saff)

would the viper engine have the power to top 200mph in a sierra, or would i maybe need to use my NOS as well on it!!!! i have a complete nos kit so would fit that as well for good measure, it seems the 2004 viper engine takes the 200 shot happily

i'd think the 550 you state would be well short of the 200mph mark,
martin just done it with around 700bhp
and ag fell just short with the same power,
and they were both in shells with less drag(escos and focus with aero aids)

the kits needs a lot of work to finnish then maybe 2 or 3 goes at getting it through the IVA test, then all the crap with DVLA, where as i can get a rolling shell, stick the engine in and just change the CC on the log book, i could have the engine in a sierra and running in a weekend, the kit car will take weeks and still many Ł1k, don't get me wrong, i would love to finnish the kit car, but i haven't the time with working in America now, i will be coming to the uk for a holiday about April next year, and would hope to do the sierra in the first week or 2 so i can have some fun, if i stick with the kit i would end up doing it the hole time i was in the uk and never have any fun, and it still wouldn't be tested when i come back to the states.

basicly starting the kit was a mistake, done a lot of engine changes in things that were straight forward i thought the kit would be just the same, but its a lot lot harder and time consuming, fitting the viper engine in a sierra will be childs play and what me and my mates are used to doing, the first time we fitted a 24v cosworth in a transit back in the mid 90's it only took us a weekend and it was driving again, and we didn't push our selfs, so i don't forsee putting the viper engine in a sierra to much of an issue, might have to upgrade the brakes a little though.

fair enough jimbo,
i knew about the charge temps andy had,
but i thought the escos would have been better than the saphy,
either way my point was just that 550 was not enough to do the 200mph

think is with 200mph and i'm not saying i can do it, but at those speeds its the torque and gearing that makes a big difference, and as the viper car can pull a .5 overdrive ratio from 175 to 195 while pushing itsself through the air, i think i stand a fighting chance, and the viper is a convertable so has the drag of the soft top, but i won't know till i put the engine in and try it, but as i say, i think it will fall a few mph short.

maybe the easter weekend!! not difficult though, someone on here has aleady fitted a t56 in a sierra and by all accounts its easy fit, so its only engine mounts, plumbing and test drive, all the wiring is done as you know, not sure what the others on here did about prop shaft, may need to get one made but thats not end of the world.

says at the beginning of the resto thread its a 302 small block ford(proper yank engine)
bit bigger now with the stroker crank etc
ls would prob be better as its more modern and lighter i think,
but the ols ford v8's have been tuned to death in the states and you can buy all the bits for washers, best keeping it all ford

700 can do 200mph at Brunters if everything is perfect but ask Martin how many runs it can takes if it aint. 730 will get you there any less & its a real struggle. You wont do much over 190mph with 600bhp however much torque you have.
Torque aids intial accleration until you start to hit the wall when its just a Power game. If you gain 100metres on intial accleration that gained distance is about 1.2 extra seconds on the throttle at 200mph so maybe 1 mph difference.
Chip once explained it on here if it takes around 550bhp to push the air out of the way at 190mph then if you have 600bhp you only have 50bhp to acclerate with so the car will die at about 190. A car with 850bhp will have 300bhp to keep acclerating so it charges on past 200mph untill that Power aint enough to battle on.
Dozens on runs at Brunters & ive yet to beat those laws of physics & im afraid your Ford fitted with a Viper engine wont either .
