Default BMW E46 oil pressure warning lights

I have a mates car in for some suspension mods and it has a problem I'm slightly concerned about.

Basically a few seconds after you start it the oil light comes on for about 5-10 seconds, its shows it in yellow but I've noticed when the igntion is just on its red so I guess it means 2 things.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the yellow and red light ?

Its a 328, early E46 model if thats any help.

Cheers

had this with a 330d, the oil that had been put in at the service was to thin and it wasn't happy about it,
changed the oil to the correct stuff and light stayed on,
had to go into bmw dealers and they reset it, never had any more bother after that

As above, the yellow light is to do with the level.

They do suffer with these, I have changed a few.

when you turn of the engine and the yellow light still lighting it s mean you need to make 1 litre of oil in the engine if it is red its very bad for the engine you need to stop the car and make oil in...
