Default For the Hgv drivers - digi card question

My digi card has malfunctioned. I spoke to a Vosa bloke earlier about it, I know I can drive for upto 15 calender days without it, while waiting for a new one, doing printout at end of duty and signing it, but I'm sure he said to do a printout at beginning as well. Now, am I being thick, or is it going to be nigh on impossible to printout at start, as there's going to be no data. Also, do I just drive as normal, or do I need to do anything to tacho?

We have drivers at our place who don't have Digi Cards and all they do is a manual Tacho. Obviously doing a manual means you can lie when you have your breaks.

if u do a print out in the morning it will show that the truck has,ent done any work at the start of the day i.e no driveing will have been recorded at that date and early time so u will have a complete record of the day and can account for all you have done in your hours

Is it? What about people who are tacho exempt and just use a log book?

But that depends on the type of truck, use, and the load carried.

i.e i dont have to use any tacho in gritters when i'm on them, you run until you get a call on the radio to come in; And i was told in conversation motorway recovery vehicles dont run on tachos either, and one guy used to work 12 hour days regular.

its all bollocks though imo. i'm still on paper, have no probs with it either.

Its not mate as not all our drivers have them. If you are correct though then I work for the biggest Food Distributor in the Country who is breaking the law every day.

I would hope they know the law.

i work at a tacho centre and you are on a sticky wicket if you drive without a digicard in unless you can prove that your card isnt working

I can prove my card isn't working, the local test station/Vosa office stuck it in their machine and it refused to read it! As for the printouts, just to confuse matters, i'm not the only one to drive the truck. I start at 15.30, someone uses the truck before me, so the printout shows his daily duty as well. Any way round this? Also, I finish anytime between 01.30 and 03.30 so my daily duty carries me into the next day, so do I need to do 2 printouts, 3 if you count beginning of shift, as to get all my data i had to print yesterdays 24hrs and todays 24hrs at the end of shift, so is there anyway of getting the tacho to just give me a print of my duty on 1 print at the end, if you get what I mean.
