Default Have we got a rare xr3??

Hello fellas, bought a xr3 last weekend, and there is a plaque rivetted to the driver side sill!! The engraved writing has rubbed off, but apparantly the car used to be owned by the Royal Family!! The plate is YPU 7X, anyone no where i can find out the history?? Without giving the robbing cunts at the DVLA money??

Cheers

doubt if the fiver the dvla charge to see all the old owners would show a royal one, they don't usually have their names on logbooks.start looking through old press pics of the royals for the car rare to see an xr3 but even better if fergie 'the scrounger' might have used it

Morcheen - i was thinking of doing that, didnt no where to start tho really

Rog - The previous owner, thats what he was told!! The plaque has writing on it, but cant make it out, the writing used to be red!! If you lift the door seal, theres a number stamped onto the top of the plaque

Get a really good picture of the plaque and fiddle around with the contrast settings in Photoshop, it can really show up these sort of things.

Its definately the same car mate as he even mentions the reg, someone also mentions something about a garage called Perrys and something along the lines of this was a plaque for a warrenty 'PERRYS PROMISE' type of thing, not sure how true it is

http://www.xrstyle.co.uk/forums/view...er=asc&start=0

Do a search on the users posts and he mentions the car a few times, maybe contact him get some info?

Could be something to do with a percival perry who back in the day was head honcho of ford in britain and i think the first to open a ford factory outside the U.S and was in charge when dagenham was opened ????.

More likely is this was sold either new or as a 2nd hand motor from PERRY`S FORD and they sold it with some sort of warranty ie the "PROMISE".

The 19382k is probably just the date ie 19-3-82.

Dave.

read the bit 3/4 way down under side heading 'used cars' mentions the Perrys Promise, sounds like they are still using that slogan

i´d be a bit careful buying cars with a royal connection matey, i brought a 1 owner, fully "loaded" s class merc back in the 90´s, not 100% on the royal connection as the log book said some weird name, if i remember right it was like al famed....oh no sorry it was al fayed, anyway, i digress, so although you may think it makes it well looked after, mine was a bit dodgy, i brought it late at night (always a no no) it seemed to have a few scapes but nothing i couldnt fix, but the next norming, my god, the interior was shocking, a right mess, stuff spilt everywhere, luckily it had leather but the "dye" has started to run.

should have known better than to trust a french trader.

I hear the Queen has bought Fergie an all-expenses-paid trip to the Paris Ritz, including the use of a chauffeur driven Mercedes while she's there.

Hi,
Judging by your reg it was first registered in Chelmsford and Perrys was a Ford dealers in Essex.

Copied this from Series One Forum, enjoy working out where you car is from..

Here's a how-to for identifying your cars origins, and what the letters on your registration plate mean:

Numberplate two letter area code system.

In the now redundant system, the numberplate contained a group of three letters at the end. The second and third letters denote the location of first registration.

For example:

A234 UYU

The second and third letters denote the location of first registration:

A234 UYU

'YU' = London (Central)

On suffix registered cars it works in the following way. For example:

CCW 925Y

CCW 925Y

'CW' = Preston

Dont be a dick, where did i say it WAS owned by the Royal Family??? I said APPARANTLY The previous owner is a friend, ive known about the car for years while he was re-building it, but no-one knew what that plaque meant, APPARANTLY it means it was a Royals car, i just wanted to find out whether it was true or not!!

I only payed £400 for the car, needs a bit of work, passenger floor plan, inner sill, few little bits here and there, the cars complete but in bits!!

I spoke to someone from Perrys yesterday, and she was goin to have a look thro there systems to see if anything is documentated, but surely if it was a warranty stamp someone on here would have come across one before??

Royal family or not, £400 quid is a bargain for what looks a very solid XR3.

The rego looks familiar, could well be a car that was local to me when new. Any details of previous owners, apart from HRH that is?

The plate/plaque looks remarkably like the "no liabilty infered" plates stuck on cars after they were used for promtion and press purposes, in essence sold as seen by ford with no warranty, would not have been declared new at registration, can check this on V5.
It costs £5 to get previous history from DVLA, go on to thier site and download the form fill in and send off, if was owned by royal will say crown estate as owner.
