rain getting into my FRST cant trace it, help please anyone.
as above, it was doing it last winter but tiny bit so put it down to people getting in my car but this year i got a puddle! and i have had to cut that bit of carpet and underlay out as it stank!
i got a black carpet to put in but dont want to till i trace the sorce.
the underlay round the ECU is damp so i think its coming in from that side, mabey from round windscree or mabey the seal on the ECU????
another thought is that where the sunroof drains down mabey the drain hole in the seal is blocked?
anyone that has had this sort of problem or knows of anyways to test/trace it please let me know.
cheers
oh, on second picture, thats not rust on the floor it dirt.

Dry the car and then throw some flower around the inside of the car. Then attack the outside of the car with a hosepipe and the water should come in the normal place and mank up in the flour which will show you where the leak is.

heater matrix is fine mate, i changed that a few years back and i would smell the aintfreez, it is rain water as it dont get wet in summer etc.
but i know what ya saying but sadly its not the matrix, in a way i sort of wish it was cos i could sort it easy.
i know the windscreen rubber leaks a bit since i put a new screen in ( cracked the other one) but it was getting soaked before i changed the screen so i know theres more of a problem than just the windscreen rubber.

nope, no holes mate, had the dash out last year cos i put a black one in so i know thers no holes up there and i i have had a look today after cutting the carpet out and nothing, but the underlay round the euc is wet but not behind the glove box so its point in that direction that the waters coming in around that coner of the car.
i got news paper in there at the mo to dry it up, will prob try that flour trick to trace it or might just take dash out then try it.
any other ways of tracing it at all?

arches and seal are fine mate, no rust on the at all.
it happens mainly when its parked up cos the front is dipped down a tad toward the kerb.
if i was to wash it, i prob wouldnt get anywater in there or mabey a tiny bit but it builds up and takes ages to dry out, and its a pain when i been driving it with heater on etc and then next morning the inside is covered and ya wipe it off and water dripps everywhere, its a fooker when it freezes, i got to scrap the inside too, lol
all i can think is its the screen or the ECU as ive had both these out within the last couple of years.
just cant find where its coming from, i was hoping it would be the drain pipe from sunroof but i cant see the drain hole so that might be blocked too?

yeah thats true, a mate had a nasty hole where the floor pan meet the bulkhead, but this could be seen from inside and i cant see any signs of it inside but its worth a check.
if nothing there its another thing i can rule out.
i know the festas rust at bottom of windscreen as i took mine out couple of years back as mine started to go, nothing major and there wasnt any rust holes so i got it in time, was some rust around the drain hold under the rubber tho but this was surface and i treated by grinding the rust off with drimmal and repainting, and it was still fine when i replaced the windscreen 4 months ago
maybe the screen's leaking more than i think?

ok here goes , below is a list of the places that can leak.......
windscreen rubber around the corners , they tend to perish, i had mine sealed and replaced so many times.
ecu, what i did with mine was take it out , clean up the hole and use some silicone sealant around the hole and whack the ecu back in real tight to get a good fit.
sunroof drainage holes , they run from the corner of the sunroof down the A pillars , the water is meant to go down rubber pipes but thay can perish if your car is old, they drain into the sills (good old ford )
the rubber bung in the floor can sometimes leak water if its pissing down so just seal it with some sealant.
the heater matrix always leak so that could be your problem
take the front wheels off and the arch liners out and look towards the floor , where the two panles join they tend to go rusty and rot through, sometimes youy cant even tell from looking at the floor from the inside,
hope this has helped a bit
cheers mark.

hello mate, yeah it all helps, i know the foors not rotton and the pipes from sunroof pipes are ok, but i can see the end if the pipe on the insideof the seal, would of thought it would of been poking out the bottom of seal tho
the part you on about behind the arch linner is solid, not taken it off but have had a good look and a prod and its sound.
im sur its from the screen or ecu but need to check it.

finaly got round top sorting it..........sort of
got some fluorescent dye and watered it down, got the old man to pour it over the wind screen and i checked for it in the car with a UV light, found it was just the windscreen rubber leaking
washed the car off quick and ill be getting some stuff to seal the rubber and fingers crossed that will be that.

the very smallest of holes will let in a lot of water personally i would whip the dash seats and carpet out get some one to hold a hose and let water flow over the area you suspect while u inside with a torch checking, did this a lot when checking for water leaks when in the motor trade u may be suprised as we found out a lot of the time the leak could be from some where else but its jus the way the water finds a route thro the car as to where it eventually ends up. good luck hope its easily sorted

Hiya ..
I am amazed that the common problem of the Battery tray starting to corrode was not mentioned. Water runs off the back end of the wing rails, and under the tray, then runs thru inside under the sound felt and onto the pans.
Anything drilled/sealed through the kicks (above the speaker, is suspect.
A Panel door rubber (lower end)

No battery tray up there on a fiesta. Escort of course.
Most probably the windscreen rubber, runs under the rubber from the roof and runs straight done the pillars and in at the corners.

im gunna have the screen out to sort it as im gunna check for rust etc.
carpets already been cut out on the passanger side as it was fooking wet and started to smell.
looking down the scrappy ( as was trying to find a good dry underlay) most if not all the fiestas had wet passanger side foot wells.
im sure its a case of the rubber as i put another screen in last year, even tho its bee leaking a little for longer, when i first got the car it never leaked, and to the best of my knolage there is no rust hols anywhere to allow the water in as i have checked.
the patch goes from the corner of the bottom of windscreen, down around the wheel arch ( in front of ECU) and on the floor, it also runs down from the corner to the floor by the side of the dash and down behind the footwell kick trim.
best thing is, because i used UV dye, if it is getting under the rubber somewhere else i can tell when i shine the UV light on it when the screens out
