Theres no need for closed loop if your car is mapped properly.

Closed loop has advantages over a non-closed loop setup with fuel economy being one of the main advantages.

Having used both Stu's closed loop and non closed loop software in the past, my money would be spent on the closed loop software - Much better engine responce when driving in closed loop with a smoother idle and cruise

Well worth the extra Ł100 - especially since that will of paid for itself within a few tankfulls

Sorry mate but you obviously do not understand how an engine managment system works and dont realise an engine is not a fixed quantity as it wears out with time and use.

You have to realsie mapping is a procedure that adjusts an engine at regular intervals usually on a 16 x 16 grid (as an example)
So between then intervals the ecu uses a straight line to determine fuelling. (Linear interpolation)
This means between these points is a best guess on fuelling.
So, using closed loop the engine wil tune itself by adding or removing fuel as needed.

Do you really think manufacturers fit closed loop on production cars for fun ?

Or perhaps you beleive that all production cars are not mapped correctly..LOL

Why's he a tool for bringing up a topic that's he's intersted in finding out more about?! Really nice way of making people feel welcom on here lol.

Bring up an old post for more info or start a new one about something already talked about before hummm..........

Its a shame most of his info on EFI is flawed.
Such as..... "its ok to map a car on a faulty fuel pressure regulator"

Shame really as he is quite a helpful chap !

My car used to be closed loop years ago, and since was live mapped. Off boost my car is no worse on fuel.

Well, that is perfectly possible. But with varying air temperatures and ambient pressures and over time as your engine wears etc...Your AFR will drift slightly. !
Also, fuel consumption is an average so there will be times in your car that run rich/lean etc..

Closed loop will keep that all in check for you and save money even on a seemingly perfectly mapped system.

i think if people understood what the tern "closed loop" means that it would help them understand why its a better method

closed loop is a term we use to distribe a control system that has feedback. the control system see's this feedback and alters its output proportionately (i know i havent talked about 3 term control before anyone says)

now lets put this into a real world situation, would you rather take a football penalty with a blindfold on (well you know where the net is,,, and you know where the ball is-open loop control) or would you rather take that penalty using yours eyes open (closed loop control, as your eyes are giving you feeback) ?

You ceratainly can - You need to run 3 wires for the Lambda sensor - 1 for power to the heater, 1 for ground and a signal wire to the ECU
