Seen this on there but its a bit of a mess! If it had the proper conversion kit and a decent engine then it would be a bargain, but hard to tell as it looks such a mess! Not much of a gain with power over a 2.8i but would handle much better as the rover v8 weighs less than a pinto and has good tuning potential.

I thought about a rover v8 in my capri but when i looked into it the only reason i wanted to do it was for the sound! So i put a yb in instead.Better option than the rover is a 24v cosworth,as they are 195hp standard and not bad on petrol either. They are a bit heavy though!

i bought this little beauty for Ł1200 of ebay
came with gearbox that i fitted as old box was gettting tight, needed an alternator and front brake pipes and that was it. she did 130 just lol
sold it for Ł1900 3 years ago now, wish id kept it tbh worth alot more than that even then.

Nah , its a mess , the v8 is only 150 bhp but loads of torque and much nicer to drive than a 2.8i .
Tuned engines though , thats a different matter , use the bits for the conversion , build a decent spec engine and it could be a hafl decent conversion
heres mine

I get what your saying, but i'd rather have a cheap to buy, cheap to modify and cheap to fix engine than an expensive one.

NO its not hard to fit , people seem to think its a cheap converison , and compared to some it is ,
you need , modified engine mounts , modified sump and pickup pipe , modified headers and a custom prop , and then clutch and cables arrnaged.
Not a huge issue but it can add up a bit.

Yeah that a popular converison , boa is apparently easier than the bob , problem is getting a gearbox ,almost all 24 v grannys are auto , you need to get a hybrid box , or use a type 9 but it will destroy them as the are crap
And its just not a v8 ,, but them Im biased
Not a bad conversion though

Has to be the V8 for me, but I do appreciate peeps wanting to stay all Ford
I found better economy round town from a standard Rover on SUs than a 2.8i driving the same speeds but having to play with the gearbox more
Then there's the roll on from the V8 in top, my mate had a stage 3 3.1 with 390 Holley etc etc in his MK 3 He wasn't impressed with my 150 quid lump
Makes a better balanced car too

Have to disagree there , the heads on them breathe so poorly , nobody really does tuning products for them .
with regards to the fuel side of things on paper I would agree , however I could never get more than about 28 out any of my 2.8i's , One of my pals has a 3.5 v8 with strombergs in a Capri and he gets over 30 mpg ,
Mine has not been on the long enought to figure out what the mpg is , but I been getting about 90 miles to a tank
But that V8 sounds lovley

My comparison was when I junked the 390 Holley and Offy to go back to SUs as the cam and heads were stock and it was costing me too much dosh for town work. Cos the V8 has the good low to mid grunt in a light MK 1 Capri shell you could chug about and get 20 - 24 round town compared to the 2.8i having to be booted more to make the same progress, up and down the box and return a couple of MPG less. In saying that the Rover doesn't get much more return in the Capri on a cruise on the original 3 litre 4 speed as like you say they don't like to rev as much.
I've had a few 2.8s and the best I've ever got from 'em is 28 - 30 MPG
Anyways, the next motor I had in the following Capri (one I still have) was breathed on and set up for the 1/4 mile running a hot cam, 600 Holley with head work etc The best I had on a steady run from that lump was 12 MPG Hope to ressurect her soon with a better motor
@ DarylC (hope spelling right) I'll sort a thread with some old skool pics when I have sussed how to work it all here

the V8 noise would just suit a capri so well, ford should have built one.
the v8 also comes in several displacements too doesnt it!? 3.5 3.9 then thers 4.5 in some cars, maybe even bigger, so if you found a cheap 3.5 you should be able to change the engine over to a bigger one later on?!
