I give blood as often as I can but cant get my head around letting my organs go, I know Id accept one at drop of the hat which makes me a hypocrit but the thought of my kidney etc in someone else is just weird, know I'll be dead so it doesnt matter one bit but its just the thought, I dont want to be cremated either, scared it might hurt.

i should donate blood; my Mrs does.
i know this sounds lame but i'm always busy and dont want an appointment i might not be able to keep
with regards to being an organ doner, its not something i've ever really given any thought too. I guess when you're fit & healthy; its the last thing on your mind

I did mine on-line at the end of the day if it can help someone else should anything happen to you then why not. Its no good to you when your dead, i know its hard for some people to get there heads around the subject but just put your self in someone who really needs the gift of live. Give blood as well but going next week to sign up for giving platlets.

Regularly give blood and also registered on the bone marrow register. Will have to give organ donation some serious consideration. Is there a maximum age for organ donation?

I give blood, and have done since 17 +1/2 years old. Never missed an appointment, now I'm up to 55 units donated.
Trying to get to 75 units so the blood service can take me out to dinner once a year
Also on the bone marrow register.
My organs are probably pretty screwed to be honest.............

I gave blood once back when i was in college, i laid there for the 15 minutes allocated and couldn't fill the bag!? I will go again, but haven't been able to since as every time i think about doing it ive had a tattoo or a piercing so of course can't give blood for 12 months IIRC?

Let's be honest, most of us would take blood or parts if needed without a second thought, but not enough folk think about where these come from or donating themselves.
I used to give blood but I'm not allowed any more because I "might" have received blood during an operation in 1985.
The fact that they took most of my near-50 donations after the operation makes it feels a wee bit like closing the door after the horse has bolted. More worrying, though, is no-one ever asked me if I felt OK or if I was worried by the possibility of having caught something like mad cow disease. (I'm not worried, by the way! I'm a duck!!!)
I'm still on the organ register but have no idea if they will use my bits if they won't use my blood.
Personally, I kind of think everyone who is fit SHOULD give blood, and organ donation after death should be something you have to opt OUT of. My dad was a doctor and it can't be easy for medical folks to ask grieving family members for permission to take and use the bits that can save lives from their just-lost loved ones.

i've also signed up for giving bone marrow at www.anthonynolan.org.uk, which sounds a bit scary but i've endured worse pain from car and bike accidents and haven't stopped driving/riding for fear of further pain, so i'm prepared to suffer the pain to help someone else if it comes to it
