Default Quick licence question about catergories

i passed my driving test 3/12/1997, the only catergories i have on it is

B
B1
fkp

now i want to obtain the correct catergorgy to enable me to drive a recovery truck which i assume is no more than 7.5 tonnes. I also want to be able to use a transit recovery truck with a spec lift on the back

which catergory do i need? is it C1 or C
if its C1 do i need to apply for a provisonal licence? or just do a theory test

i've looked at a few sites which have contradicted each other

help!!, cheers, Matt
