Default mk 5 fiesta 1.25 16v timing belt.

hi people just wanna know which way is the easiest way to do a timing belt on these engines. Or how do you do them. I should be getting the timing pins from a lad at work. Just after some tips really cause the car is 10 years old and the mileage is nearly at 80.000. My wife will be starting a new job soon and she will be doing more miles so i dont want it snapping on her. Hopefully i will be doing it next weekend.

What ever you do, don't forget to change the tensioner. Regardless of how it looks, these can fail quite easy.

Just be sure to use the correct timing pin for locking the crankshaft, the crank pulley is not keyed onto the shaft and also the timing belt drive pulley on the crank is not keyed so you can turn the crank and alter the valve timing with the crankshaft pulley bolt removed (even with the belt still on and tensioned)

Use the locking bar to hold both camshafts in place but dont rely on just that when loosening the camshaft sprocket bolts as you can very easily snap the end lugs off the shafts ! Get a spanner or self grips and hold each shaft in turn while looseining the bolts, also be sure to use thread lock when refitting them and on the crank bolt.

Not a bad job to do really.
