A small company doesn't have to file full accounts, I tried it with a company I used to work for.
And they are usually a couple of years old.

If it's PLC, shareholders get copies of the accounts.

And the accounts prove very little, that same company I worked for had a decent turnover, low overheads was sold a couple of years back and went into administration before Xmas with a lot of debt.
Curiously the other companies in the new owners group survived.
.

well i just wanted to see how much profit the company made as we have just had our overtime stopped again and told any overtime worked has to be taken in liue as the company isnt doing to well,
it would seem they have been telling porkies as the report shows quite a large pre-tax profit.

it would seem the workers are being mugged off which is nice to know

I see you're a bit cynical like me with your employer..

I don't envy my boss for the job he does, and at the end of the day it is his company, but if they are still making a decent bit of dough from the company, making out the company is doing badly is pretty shifty.

Dude, you can make those figures say whatever you want - the missus is an accountant lol

They always want that to look good for investors/customers etc.

Just be glad you have a job. If you are not happy, look for something else then quit. DONT bitch and moan...

not bitching or moaning, just wanted to see if we were being told the truth about the company,

we have been led to believe the company made a big loss last year and certain things needed to happen to keep the company going.

just wanted to see if it was true and it turns out its not.

ive been there for 9years and have been a good honest worker but since we have new managers in things have changed for the worse.

workers arent being treated correctly.

i wont leave the company as i enjoy my job to much,
i will however have a word with the company owner who i get on well with to satify my mind

some staff got payrises
some staff didn't
i don't think that's right but that's what companies do
i'm worse off by around Ł2k a year beause of the new contract, but i can't go back to the old one so i'm stuck with it
we get quaterly reports to see how well we are doing and we didn't make as much profit as was predicted, so no bonus or payrise for some

if you were being asked to work additional hours for time off instead of pay in order to keep a supposedly failing company going you may well see the point then.

dojj thats perfectly understandable but to lie to the workers about being in financial ruin in order to get them to work extra hours with no pay is different surely?

depends on who you believe really

our nurses get a pay rise
the rest of the staff don't
but the nurses were the worst in terms of costs as they had the biggest loss
but without them we'd be a bit fucked seeing as we work in the health industry
but they cost the rest of us our profit

not sure in what sort of industry you work in, but if the boss is making you work extra without payment to keep things going, if the company goes kaput, how pays your extra money? assuming there is any extra money to be made?
how do you know he's not just saying that to make as much money as possible before saying "we are broke, i'm winding the company up, you are all out of jobs and i can't afford to pay you any redundancy?
is that the long and short of it?

Oh shit you've got to work a few extra hours with no pay, that's the end of the world isn't it !

I'm a self employed builder and trust me it ain't easy at the moment, at least you go home and forget about things until the next day

if you refuse to do the hours for free you may get sacked yeah, then what you gonna do ?

It's a small price to pay if you ask me, what if everyone refused would the company go under

not mate, they cant sack me for refusing to do it. overtime is optional.

and thats just it the company wont go under as they are doing well but thats not what we are being told.

it may not be easy for the building trade, im not doubting you but im not a builder.

i purely posted up asking for some info which i got.
i didnt post up asking who has it hard or asking for sympathy, i only wanted to do alittle research on the company i work for to see if things are as bad as were told

i really dont know what the long and short of it is which is why i wanted to do some research on the company,
i work in event and exhibitons as a HGV driver.
we have loads of work on, just done the AUTOSPORT show and got loads more on which is why ive started to wonder.

we were doing ok this year, but the fuel prices have really made a dent in our performance
if you have a set budget and you can't mamange then that may be the reason, they can't pay you extra until the financial year is up r something like that

it doesn't have ot be sinister bt if you ask the right questions i'm sure osmeone will drop a hint as to what the business is like
