repairing a hole in stud wall

This giving up smoking lark isn't all it's cracked up to be!

Last night i got a strop on over something completely trivial and put my fist through one side of a stud wall between the bathroom and dining room. :tiff:

Obviously i now have to repair it, but the question is, how?
I really don't fancy chopping the plasterboard back to the wooden beams/noggins and putting a fresh bit in then having it re-skimmed, so could i get a piece of hardboard or similar, cut it into a couple of pieces (i.e. so it can fit through the fist sized hole) then use countersunk screws to fix the hardboard to the inside of the plasterboard and fill on top of that?

cut a piece of strong card just bigger than the hole, fold it in half and put a hole in the middle, put a piece of cord through the hole and tie a pencil on the end of the cord, then put the whole lot through the hole and pull the cord so the card is flat against the back of the wall with (hopefully) the pencil at 90 degrees to the fold, then just plaster over the card (you may need to tie the cord to something to keep the card in place). when your done just cut the cord and fill in the small hole left by the cord,

Much the same as Joffy says but use wood as the filler will shrink too much with card as it takes the moisture out of it.

Cut the hole in the wall to a square, cut some plasterboard to the same size as hole, put a screw in the middle of the plaster board so u can hold it in place and move as neccasary and place it in the wall using small amount of filler on the sides to hold it, remove screw and skim over the top.

Had to do this a few times now

cover the cardboard in pva glue first.....this is esential to stop the card sucking the moisture from the plaster!!!:respekt:
