under17's driving in essex? help please :)

Hi all, Got a mate who wants to find out about an apparent under 17s driving school in essex (wants it for a birthday present) but a few googles have come up with nothing. Apparently there is basically a road layout, but off the road, where you can learn to drive.
Anyone know where it is/what its called/website/contact details? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks :)

Thats the one!

punto_td 10-01-2010 10:40 PM

i went there and i thought its fucking shit personally.

i got it for present too- and i didnt even bother going to all of them.

zetec-Sam 10-01-2010 10:43 PM

Surely its better than not being able to drive at all though...

it depends what you want from it.

what i done was go in one of there cars, so it was crap, you had to use both hands on wheel, check mirrors, etc- hardly fun, its basicly a driving lesson, id rather be at home cos once on the real roads it didnt help at all.

but if you went in your own car, just for a drive & fun, id imagine it could be fun.

1) its being bought as a present, by a mate, for his sister.
2) obviously you have to drive like that, as they're teaching them the test, so they dont have to wait til they're 17 to start learning, they're hardly going to let 16 year olds who have never driven before go hooning round like its a racetrack are they
And why the fuck would you go once you can drive? Surely you'd just go on the road. I think you've totally missed the point in this place if I'm honest mate.

thats exactly what others were doing, while i was there, there was this sierra with young boy and bloke and it racing around.

a girl will probably prefer it to a bloke imo tho.

all im saying is- it wont help imo, you would be better waiting for on road lessons, different instructor will teach you totaly different so it wont help.

What's wrong with driving with both hands on the wheel, or checking your mirrors?

punto_td 11-01-2010 04:33 PM

i think you lot have missed my point-

if your thinking of buying it for someone to have some fun driving then it is crap, cos its not fun.

if your buying it for someone who wants to learn to drive, then yes they may like it- but it will not help them in the slightest imo.

Fil 11-01-2010 04:51 PM

I went there with my mum when i was about 12 in a sierra, the car came home on an AA truck, with a knackered clutch  opps

was £8 back in 92/93, last price i heard was £14, if you have use of your own car you just turn up and drive

Also had a mate who had about 10 1hr lesson / session with instructors there when he was 16, had 2hrs driving on the roads on his 17th birthday and the test in the afternoon, and passed! no theroys back then

So its not going to help someone who has NEVER driven a car before?
I think you're being a bellend if i'm honest.

jammerrs 19-01-2010 05:28 PM

obviously itll help, id love to go, think i need clutch controll before i can drive

It's not a red balloon fun day out in a Ferrari you zipperhead, it's to get a bit of driving experience when 16 to help you pass sooner when you're 17.

dojj 19-01-2010 06:29 PM

in the summer it's as busy as fuck!

i'm going past there tomorrow but everytime you go past all you see are drivers who are being very careful in their cars around a little track

it'll be nice to be able to get behind thw heel of a car in controlled areas though so go for it :top:

erjones 19-01-2010 06:38 PM

Cardrome i guess is good for under 17s to learn, but everytime i pass it coming home from work i keep thinking "hmm be fun for timed laps!"

Ian Cosworth Jewell 23-05-2014 08:59 PM

sounds stupid but sister just found this lol when she was trying to locate it herself ive been there used my dads 2.0 turbo mk5 fiesta there yes its a road layout but you can have fun because if your in your own car and with ie your parent i was 16 so this would have been 2011 i was hooning round like a nutter for the fun of it because why not taking my sister this weekend in my own fiesta havent told her ive not fited the new clutch ye so it slips like f*ck but itll be fuuny watcher her stall it :P
