Default One for the transmission experts......

Is there a formula for working out the diameter a propshaft needs to be in relation to its working length?

And what is the maximum angle you can run a hardy a typical hardy splicer at?

Default

T/J=t/r=G0/L

Where:
T= The torque seen by the shaft
J= Polar moment of area
t= Sheer stress
r= Radius
G= Sheer Modulus
0= Degree of twist
L= Length of shaft.

If you fancy crunching numbers and you didnt know, J for a hollow shaft is ((Pi x OD^4)/32)-(pi x ID^4)/32)

Alternatively I have an excel spread sheet that will work it all out for you dependant upon material spec, shaft length, torque, and %ID to OD.
