a sign of the times
a friend at work just let his R reg BMW 540 4.4 go for £400, buyer collects 2morro.
he had it up for sale for 6mths with no intrest,
gradualy the price came down. he decided since there was a lack of intrest it was going to the scrapper's on friday since his insurance was up on it and couldnt afford to renew.
he even said he'd swap for a smaller car but still no intrest.
with petrol prices the way they are and the planned rise i guess no one wants these motors anymore which is a shame as they are fantastic
anyway he has cut his loses and practicly given the thing away.
i would have thought he would have got atleast a £1000 for it.

yep! i did try an advertise it on here, i paid my GOLD member fee yesterday,
forgot id got a new bank card so the payment has been sent as a bloody echeque.
i posted it anyhow ( which was cheeky ) but it was removed as the car doesnt belong to me and its counted as trading which i understand fully.
£400 for such a lovely motor.
my mate gave £3k for it just over a year ago.
his wages have been reduced at work and couldnt afford to run it but on the other hand he was stuck with a car that no one wanted to buy,
this is why he has chose to cut his loss as its costing money being sat there.

Is this another wind up? Why didnt he just put it up on ebay with no reserve and im sure he could have doubled/tripled/quadrupled his money surely. Must have been desperate by the sounds of it.

he has no computer, i offerd to put it up on ebay for him earlier in the week but he said it will be too late, his insurance runs out friday,
the car has killed him financialy over the past 6mths as he cant afford the fuel bill,
its been advertised on pistonheads, and swapz but not even a call.

Suffers from the typical BMW fault though - front fogs on all the time!!!
Nice car for a great price, but the fuel bill is the thing that kills these kind of cars nowadays.

in 2009 i was selling jags like hot cakes,i even had v8's and sold them.
if the car had of been in reasonable distance to cheshire i would of given a monkey for it no sweat if you had stuck it on here with a promise of it working forwards and backwards.
tbh though your mate deserves a kick in the dick for not auctioning it,a trader would of snapped it up with a nice bit of mot and tax if it looked tidy and sounded good.

So it was up at £3000 then lowered and lowered, and then let it go for £400. Out of interest what was the lowest price it was advertised for? he could have got much more than that if he spent a couple of hours driving round a couple of delaers. He must have been desperate for the money i suppose?

it was advertised lowest at £1500,
its not the money he is desperate for, its the space. and financiial relieve.
the car cost too much for him to run, his insurance runs out friday and cant afford to re insure the thing..
since he hasnt had any luck in the time he has had it for sale this is what has happend.
its a burdon on him.
if it was mine i wouldnt let it go so easily but like ian i dont have storage space.

These things are a nightmare to move on , it took nearly a year to shift my last one .
People think they are effected by the higher tax bracket but obviously they arent .
I am paying more than 400 quid for it tho guys and it does require a couple of things before i can use it .
