Default High milage BMW's

I've seen a 2000 bmw 320d se tourer for sale, it's just what we want at the minute for the money. It has done 200k, that is the only concern.

But he is interested in a px with our astra bertone and we really need a proper family car!

Is 200k to much though? it has fsh (bmw) up to 100k

BMW's are ace for high mileage, because unlike any other make of car the bushes dont perish with age, the dampers dont need replacing when they get old and the fuel pumps and other ancilliaries all go on forever..........

I personaly wouldnt buy a 200k bmw,100K yes, my old 330d had done (iirc) 95k and it needed bushes and a shocker for the mot it cost me more than any other car to get it a mot when i bought it i thought a 8.5k bmw with 95k miles would have sailed the mot

ive got a 320d, take good care looking for turbo smoke, ask if its ever had replacement engine, has the swirl flap common problem been sorted as its a ticking time bomb, change the breather filter in rocker cover it is a must do item and often gets left, grab front wheels try to move as in to try move car backwards forwards, front wishbone bushes are common, great cars go well too

depends on history really, full beemer history and a file of reciepts and i would consider it but otherwise i'd buy a slightly older one with less miles to be honest if your buying at a budget. the thing is though, at 200,000, the chances are its already had some major work done. if its got a pile of reciepts then look through them, you might find everythin has already been done.

Judge the car on its own merits against price. Its all down to how its been maintained. If its got a full decent service history and everything looks good once you have checked as much as you can, then go for it.

Mileage is just a number at the end of the day. Too many people shy away from high mileage cars in my opinion. No need to be scared if you know what your looking for. As said, its all price dependant. Any engine can let go at any time, and often without warning, be it 50k or 250k. Ive known 200k cars be better than 50k cars, both bodily and mechanically, so just judge it based on what you have in front of you against the price.

The W plate in question is certainly cheap at that price mate, assuning its all good of course.

The one quoted above is on an auction mate with 3 days to go so its impossible to say what itll go for. Cheap if it ends at around that amount yes, but not if it doesnt, which of course it wont in my opinion. Could end up going for easily a grand or so more that.

just do a quick search for common faults.... and make sure its had them all done. chances are at that mileage it will have. bmw engines do big miles no probs. inlet manifold swirl flaps cause big problems.

i got a 7 series to sell on last year and it had done 180k.the leather was unmarked, every single thing worked still, auto was still perfect engine never missed a beat.
my brother kept it a year and only recently sold it in that time a washer became blocked and needed replaced and it got serviced!
if its in good condition and maintained as it should the milage isnt a worry there built for it!

i removed my swirl flaps its not that hard to do, also as i said above do the engine breather filter too as that contributes highly towards turbo failure.

you wont regret owning one though love mine to bits
