Do you need to take the sump off to change the oil pump.
And where is it on the engine.
Do these get weak? oil light is staying on a fraction to long for my
morning start up, bottom end full rebuild 4k ago but oil pump not changed.
Engine is so quite when running , could this be a weak pump.

More than likely worn out mate and not picking up straight away once its drained out a bit over night, really cant understand why people re-build engines then overlook the most vital part for the sake of saving £60, i know you can change the oil pump with the engine in place in a s2 rst but not sure about the frst.

why o why do i do it!!!!!
you can change the oil pump with the engine still in, but you have got to take the sump off, i would say only use a o.e sump gasket to make sure you get a good seal i would take the alternator off aswell

can be done in situ!bit of a fiddle !have to take the sump off to unbolt the pipe up pipe from the pump!
I always found the sump gasket on these a complete bitch!sump is easy to get on and off,the gasket sits in a slot the oil pump end and the gearbox end,the box end a right fiddly feck!best way is to use sealant and stick the gasket to the block then when the sealant gone off carefully put the sump on!
For you symtons i would be tempted to try a oil pressure switch first, prob wont cure it but they are cheap and easy to do got to be worth a shout!
