Four things spring to mind which influenced my interest in cars:

1. The first time I'd been driven quickly when I was about 10 years old. The weapon of choice was a 1.9 205 GTi, and it was something totally different to what I'd experienced before.

2. The local police had a Vauxhall Cavalier turbo. I remember seeing it fly around and feeling very impressed at the speed it carried.

3. BTCC - mainly around the years when Rickard Rydell was shoving other cars out of the way in 850 T5's, Menu in his Renault Laguna and Biele in the Audi A4.

4. Getting my first car - the feeling of freedom the first time I sat in the drivers seat and went somewhere on my own, is a feeling that has never diminished for me.

The factors what got me into Fords:

1. My dad always messed about with fords.

2. Touring cars on the telly.

3. Sapph's going sideways/fishtailing/do-nuting at the cruises

Always said i'd own a cosworth. Got my first one when i was 19

My mates dad had a red XR2 which was the first car I "noticed", then my old man had a Fiat Uno Turbo, then my bro had an Astra GTE 16v which was the first that got me into the idea of modifying, and the first Ford that turned my head was Tony Mannock's blue Saff with the EsCos arches on the cover of an issue of Rev's from 1998 - February I think it was!

I was about 9 - 10 at the time, my older sister (16ish) was seeing a lad who had a Mk2 Escort mexico, bog standard apart from a big exhaust, i got took out in it a few times (this would be about 1983?), and the sound of it was amazing (especially for a kid), i really started noticing cars from then on, especially as mk1 and mk2 escorts were everywhere at the time.

I remember being bought a Ford RS Rallye Sport jacket for that xmas (the blue and white ones) which i wore to school!

When I was about 6 my uncle had a saph ghia which I was quite taken with. It had a rear armrest which came out of the seat which I thought was amazing at the time.

One of my dads friends also had a Mk1 MR2 at about the same time. I loved the look of that thing, would always go to the window to look at it when he came over.

What reinforced the love of fords was my cousin. He worked for the ford dealership in Chard (somerset) whe it was RS cars in the mid eightys. He was an endless source of showroom posters for my bedroom walls (still have some now although wish they were mint and didnt have the blutac marks)!!

Easy, was the Escort Cosworth for me. A guy up the road had a mint red one that pretty much made my jaw drop. I always swore I was going to buy it off him when I was old enough but he sold it a long time ago

soon as i saw that i thought of the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus i owned when i was 21,no one had stuff like that my age and tbh i had iffy insurance and no tax but it was a good car and did have a good mot ,it went so well as it had been to skip browns for a roadspeed conversion. they are a 2.2 lotus 16 valve with a dog leg 5spd zf and mine had twin 45's and high lift cams.
i got a price list from skips and the prices were fookin amazing so i made a brave decision to flog it and do a earner, still miss it now
