dad had a landrover which got me into the wanting to fix and drive a car i surpose, (like the motorbike he has too)

but going out in a mans mk4 golf gti and how he drove it got me into the speed

he learnt to drive in a audi quattro, the short wheel base rally car things
so he can pedal pretty well

but i guess the stories he had about cars realy got me into it them.

insted of watching kids telly i was watching round 1 of the BTCC, found it a lot more intresting lol
also don't no if this is the same for any one else but going on the playstation also played a big part to be honest.. going on racing games

my dad had a cortina estate when i was five or six, then 1 day he came home in a black xr3 and i loved that car, he then brought and rs1600i which i loved to, but i was hooked when his mate brought a brand new grey s2 and used to take me to football in it, i told my self that i would own 1 one day, ive had five now!!!

Northumbria Police`s Sapphire Cossie, was just gobsmacked at how mint they looked, when i was little I couldnt quite work out why they were better than normal sierras i just knew they were, then they got an Escort one which was even better, I just couldnt get my head round how awesome they looked, still love them to this day, funny thing though I loved the Escort more than the Sierra when I was little but now Ive had both i prefer the Sierra more, which is weird cause looks normally mean everything to me and the Escos is the better looking car.

For as long as I can remember i've been right into cars, as said previously it was football or cars and I chose cars as cant really stand football! Cant remember any perticular reason or car that got me hooked but one day when I was around 7 my pals dad came to our school in his brand new sapph cossie, I think that was when I realised what an RS ford was all about! Sadly that car got stolen about a week after he took us out in it never to be seen or heard of again!

My big cousin was probably partly to blame as he loved cars just as much as me, he had XR2s, xr3i's, rs turbos, GTE's, R5 turbos and a cossie, used to go down to his garage and 'help' lol

Another one of my mates years later had a series one, first time I went out in it EVERYBODY turned round to see this car, I knew then I wanted one, So I got one and still have it

i was 8 and 2 brothers up the road used to pinch the ol mans brand new 2.8 inj capri . ralph was 13 the other was about 16 i think. i never went out in it on the road but up n down their alleyway. Nutters . They never got caught as far as i know. I just recall the lovely note it had, my dad had a 1300 chevette lol.
When i moved nearer town in southend i fell in love with a certain couple of xr2 turbo,s and i was 11 when i recall seeing a saph for the 1st time. Went out in one at 16 and fell in love with the design and power delivery which is no different to today. The BLUE OVAL got me hooked end of!!!

the car that did it for me was a mk2 rs2000 when i was a proper little nipper,my dad had a mate with first a venitian red one then a signal yellow one and he parked it outside our house and i would touch it and look inside.
that was for about 5-6 years and i fookin knew i was hooked on Escort Rs's,i made me mum and dad get a black rs2000 custom and then i learnt to drive and i got one to so we both had a mk2 escort rs2000's.

I dont really know bout cars in general, as for the first 13years of my life I was a farm boy and anything with an engine i loved it and wanted something to do with it, Lorrys, Tractors and Cars.
As said Matchbox car proberly paid a huge part for me.
I loved fords for a very very long time, I can just remember my much older cuz who was in the army, and i can remeber going round his family home and him not long buy a Escort Rs Cosworth after they came out, and it sitting there on their drive but him not there so was all locked up, but it was just amazing, also so Mr Clarkson on old old TopGear.
Lil bit later in life a friends dad owning a S2 Rst, in bright red and it was just the best car ever to me, prob more to do with him as he was a fighter jet pilot which gave it even more wow factor.
Car modding when I bout 10 buying a copy of max power, back in the day and it being filled with Rsturbos, R5 turbos, Nova's, before for it became shit, also buying copys of FastFord bout the same age.
From a young age I would up set just bout anyone on a car journey I was on by naming just bout every I could see, I still have this geart talent, even when so drunk, Im being sick, as my ex told me after a heavy night out, staggering up the street and stopping to lean on just bout evry car on the street to staedy myslef while being sick but naming the car,model, enigne and anyother useless info in badly drunk my could remember. I'd problerly make a very good traffic copper, if i didn't much prefer to brake the speed limit and like certain herbs to much.

I was born in 1971, in that year (I think it was "L" reg) my dad bought a Mercedes Benz 280SEL with the 3.5 V8 engine upgrade, so my earliest of childhood memories include the electric windows, the fat tyres (for the time!) the shiny hubcaps, the 3 star "gun sight" motif on the front of the bonnet, and the speed (140 on the motorway) of these lovely cars.

Can't really say that there was one particular car from a young age, do have fond memories of a 1300E mk1 Escort my dad used to own, that was the first car i got to "drive" by sitting on his knee and steering it. Can't of been much more than 5 at the time. The next 9 years were consumed by the passion for anything that had 4 wheels, didn't matter too much what it was so long as it made the right noises. Then one day leafing through a car mag, i spotted it, it was the car that got the juices flowing (didn't take much for a 14yr old for the testosterone to flow) and i knew it would be the car i always promised myself. It was the 15" RS 7 spokes, the raven leather Recaro interior, the dark green exterior and those 2 sexy tail pipes sticking out of the back.......................... The Ford Capri 280!! Now that was one car that really set my pulse racing, the long sleek looks, the smooth lines subtley broken by the small boot spoiler, it was just automotive excellence to me! Probably explains why i have build number 251 out of 1038 sat in my garage undergoing a full restoration. Other than that, if it wears a Blue Oval, then i'm a fan of it, oh, but it has to be "Retro" to count, you can keep all your modern tat! lol

Just an observation, is it just me that finds it funny to read all the stories on this thread of guys being 7 or 8 and seeing a Cossie for the first time? Makes me feel really old.

Off topic: Reminds me of when i was at a car show recently, a line of Fords and 2 young lads walking along them admiring them when one turns to the other and says to his mate pointing at one of the cars "Now thats proper old skool!" What was he pointing at? A saph Cossie! What had they just walked past? A mk2 RS2000, a mk1 Mexico and a mk1 XR2! These lads didn't know what they were to appreciate them!

A lot of my pictures from growing up have me at shows standing next to cars or standing next to my dads old RS's, so it was only natural I'd get into RS's too. It's a thing that brings me and my dad really close. I think he was happier than I was when I got my first RS at 18

Not fords to start with, when I was 4 or 5 we had a string of V8 MGB's and rover P6's. Something about the uneven sound of that rover V8. Got hooked on Ford's when a mates mum got a MK3 escort XR3i in white. Used to get taken to school in it and it all kicked off from there.

I loved cars from the age of 4.... my older cousin was gobsmacked by the amount of cars I could name at that age.... I always wanted an XR2 when I passed my test but somehow ended up with a 2.0S Capri.... I joined the Capri Club with it and did Capri Club Camp that year..... 1990 I think.

Had a bit of a breakdown at the end of 1990 and I couldn't bring myself to drive the Capri again, so opted for something at the opposite end of the scale and bought a 1976 850 Mini..... after joining the local mini clan and eventually breaking off with a couple of mates and forming our own less clicky group I spent a good few years thereafter trawling Britain with Hull MOC and Doncaster MOC. Will never forget those years they were the best.

Its hard for me to say cause ive always loved cars.I used to love the hot rods and custom cars more than the likes of cossies and RS turbos.I always said that i would have a hot rod one day.When i passed my test my very first car was a MK2 escort 3 dr which i bought for 50 quid but it was really rotton.Ive had fords evere since and its only been the past 6 years that ive really got into fords and the shows.

It was a mint white 3dr cossie that my dad owned back in 91/92- It was a great car that was used everyday and we went on holiday in it many times, great memorys
