I raced a stage 1 st escort and beat it in an old shonky nova xe i had lol, i also know of a lad who openly admitted being beaten by a astra gsi in his standard bt escort years ago, he sold the car soon after and bought a decent spec one lol

Just to put a twist on it, do you all think a standard escort cossie would achieve the stats that ford said it would ? would be nice to test a standard escort cossie and see what figures it actually does

Compare the 3 door to the E30 M3, thats about as fair as you'll get

Your point is moot for another reason - The escort is what, 8-9years older than an E46 M3? and has 120bhp less than it standard lol.

M3's are very nice cars, but for me they are not that fast acceleration wise, yes they'll do an impressive top speed, but they take a while to get there

For me the point of this thread is its not hard to mod a cosworth to beat a more modern sports car, not thats a cosworth is better standard!

bmw will be more aerodynamic and a very good smooth torque engine. on launch the escos should have the edge due to power to weight and turbo torque spikes.
then the bmw will get moving, revs rising nicely and be more aerodynamic.

how come everyone is saying an escort ill be quicker off the line, bmw states 4.8 0-60 i think for an m3 coupe, which is hardly sluggish off the line and deffinatly not miles behind a stage 3 escort lol

You could also hear an argument that the M3 doesn't have "turbo lag" like the Cossie driver has to deal with.
