In a fuckin instant!
Life is just too short not to do the things you want to do when you get the oportunity!
I could do this and have thought very hard about doing so. I only have a single garage which currently has a resident I would never sell! Hence I am not able to (at the mo) !
Yes it might not make total sense moneywise, but is life all about money or what you do with it? Anyway you arnt going to loose money on the car unless you are an idiot so keep it for 5 years and sell it for more than you paid!

Remortgage a house to buy a car......................I don't think so, if something's beyond your reach then its beyond your reach, don't go risking it all just to have it, wether that's remortgaging your home or doing something that will get you 15 years

But would you get a car on finance? do you own a credit card? not a dig at you but in life we all want things and sometimes you have to stretch yourself to get it, life would be easy otherwise .

You would have to be a complete and utter tool to do that....
You clearly can't afford one so don't bother...
Plus what you going to do when it needs an engine rebuild, re-morgage again ?
What's the attraction with the RS500 - is it really worth paying all that money for a engine number and chassis number ? Just a car at the end of the day, nothing special about them IMO.
If you got a few quid spare at the end of the month why not save it or treat the wife (and kids if you got any) on a few one off extra's and/or arrange a few nice holidays.
More to life than a lump of metal sat in the garage - your family should come first which clearly would not be the case if you re-morgaged the house to buy a metal box.

TBH if you really really want an RS500 and you can get finance then now is the time to do it, and nothing the "haters" say will make any difference.
But check what is the cheapest way to do it financially.
Yes remortgaging may seem cheap way of getting the cash on a "per monthly" rate but you want to be looking at the total amount repaid by the end of the term. Remember most mortgages over a 25 year term you can easily end up paying double the original loan amount.
A seperate unsecured loan may well be cheaper in long run. "secured" loans may work out ok if you can get a good APR and payback over a shortish term.

I, as I'm sure others do, look back and wonder what the fook I was doing. Spending money and getting obsessed over a fooking metal box. Just a car, albeit a Ford....nothing special really. I wished I had spent the money bumming around the planet seeing and experiencing a few things.
There is nothing special about an RS500 IMO, it's a modded three door...end of! There a thousand of three doors on the road...
Now the RS200 is special, there were only 200 made (may be a few more, were the EVO's part of the original count ?). So I kind of respect these but again don't think there worth the stupid money people claim there worth.
Personally if I ever wanted a car from that era and had money to burn I would track down a Peugeot 205 T16 or Audi Sport Quattro/S1.

Almost like saying an RS200 is a modded Sierra because they share the same windscreen!lol
How hard would it be to re-create that car ?
RS500 on the other hand, buy a 3 door and a few bits or just buy a 3 door which already has the RS500 bits!lol

I just think someone that would pay that kind if money (espeically if they don't have the money) for what is just an engine and chassis number is a deluded fool. The peeps with 3 doors for half the money that look and perform like an RS500 have the right idea!l
As an investment I'm not convinced either. I reckon only original, mint, almost zero mileage examples will be worth something in the years to come. Even then I reckon there a risky investment as there is only a limited number people that obsessed with them.

I can come onto a ford forum and say what I want. I still techinally own a cossie and have spent (wasted) more money on it than most.

One thing that we don't disagree on is the RS200 a fantastic car and also legendary in the Ford history books.

I maybe would if it was for a small amount you needed to cover the diffference like under 10k, and you have loads in equity already on your home, i.e i only have about 80 grand left on my mortgage and with poterntially another 30 years to work so it's do able, BUT would i do it, probably not. I like the idea, but i think the only sensible thing i'd do is take money out from my house and invest it.
TBH full credit to you IF you do it, I don't think it's a silly idea at all, if you keep the car in a good state and have it insured as agreed value. I just don't like the idea of taking a risk like that, all be it a small one as i see it.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Depends what you want from the car,do you want to drive it? because it seems that alot don't do many miles now for fear of it losing value. If its from an investment point of view then yes get one and just sit and watch it in your garage.

Team HOTHOT!
How do you know he can't affoard - He obviously has a very large asset in his property and plenty of equity to play with to be even considering the option of a remortgage in the first place - regardless of what it is for.
Not everyone has 20k sat in a tin under the bed thesedays with money tied up in assets of which can easily be made fluid to fund things.
If he had put up "Remortgage so I can build a garage in my back yard" then you and everyone else would of said it's a good idea and a worthwhile investment
It's his money at the end of the day let him do what he wants - he asked for opinions on wether it would be a good idea considering the car in question is appreciating in value all the time now. He didn't ask for you to tell him he has no money when he clearly does

Also by the fact he said it would only be a £100 a month extra a month on his mortgage tells me he can't really afford it. If he could afford it then he would either have the money in cash or take a short term loan (< 24 months).
