Cycling hill climbs, grades or catagories?

Default Cycling hill climbs, grades or catagories?
Whilst in Spain I did a cycle ride to Guadalest (pretty steep hill for miles!) ... A friend of my daughters has just sai that qualifies as a grade 2 climb, anyone know what the hell that means? Google is not my friend on this occasion!

I do a fair bit of mountain biking and have never heard of a grading system either, however I've found this on wikipedia:

The grades are the system that the road bikers use like on the tour. I don't think hairy mountain bikers will understand.
