Speckys tigra just did a 10.7 @ 136mph on treads at pod

Do you think his homemade vauxhall astra engine with a turbo strapped to it is just a better engine than your YB?
Or do you think his FWD transmission is superior to your 4wd?
Or do you think he his just a much better driver?

I for one know of one black Fiesta with "around" that HP doing the exact same times!...
However I know not of any other claiming such a thing.

1.5 is absolutely awesome, Specky certainly cant touch that on treaded tyres, he's 3 tenths away from it in fact which is a shitload obviously.
How come you never enter TOTB mate? Would be great to see both the van and the mk3 there!

he doesn't own the van any more chip. he sold it to blacky who then sold it on again. would be good to see it at totb but its not going to be competitive is it? would certainly get the crowd cheering though i should think.

His car runs I believe around the same HP as the tigra and has like Speckys evolved each time and his times reflect that.
Although he joined the oil pump posse so is currently fitting dry sump also to his new engine.
However, who exactly is bullshitting in the UK and not doing what they say they should ??

PassionFord Post Whore!!
i can sort of what chip is saying mate ever month you read fast ford performance ford ect and people are claiming 300+ on there rsts and 600+ on cossies and you rarely see them them doing the times !!! how many cossies in the 10s and rsts in the 12s or better not many

Yes they run up at Pod on a Ford day or do a 0-60 time but there is not anyone who is dedicated to evolving there 1/4s.
Few people about now however who I know are solely commited to bettering there times.
All should be good for next season within the Ford camp.
Crazycage this year should see a low 12 so improvements are happening!

Real shame, from my point of view the zetec shouldnt be a much less capable engine than an XE, so I dont see why there are loads of 11s and 12s cars like with the vauxhall lads, lets face low 12s doesnt even need anything to be vaguely drag setup at all, rob did a 12.1 on his astra and he still had the camber settings etc from combe at the time, so nothing even slightly drag related and that wasnt even making 400bhp on the day.

Just to add a bit of spice to this thread, why is it conisdered a road legal or 'street' time when the tyres it's on (I'm assuming Mickey T ET Streets?) aren't?
Edit to say mega awesome achievement from Specky! (y)

They are treaded DOT marked tyres designed to be street legal, although admitedly that is US street legal as they havent been put through european approval, but the important thing is that they are the tyres you are allowed to run at things like TOTB, so that tends to be the benchmark that interests people who run or would like to run at that event.
You are right though that because they havent been stamped in the EU as road tyres, they probably are illegal over here if you were to run them up the road.

Its a great achievement running those sort of time in a FWD car! I think if the tyres he runs arn't legal to run on the road then he might as well just use the slicks! TOTB is meant to find the fastest street legal in the UK which it clearly doesn't if you can run on non road legal tyres.

Lol, sadly my car is waiting for some of my time, which I just dont have spare at the moment, im 200 miles away from it as I speak, so got no chance of working on it at the moment

ive been invited to totb the last 3 years but i usually just like to watch but next year i might enter as i should be in low 10`s evena 9 with nos but we`l see, also think its time for a proper cage
im at santa pod this weekend, see if i can beat his 10.5 on toyos lol

My finger isnt in, im just based 200 miles away from where the car is at the minute, as soon as my latest consultancy role finishes I will have some time to crack on with it again, no rush now though as quite happy to do it over winter ready for next year, there isnt really a lot left to do, it was going pretty well when I was using it before anyway, just decided that I want a better crank rather than risk a failure, and going to redo the rear suspension and steering at the same time.

They are a road tyre, they are very different to the slicks.

Yep, specky did 2 runs on slicks in his current spec, and matched the best that fella can manage on slicks.
The thing is though, foreign GM cars run far wuicker than that fiesta on slicks, so if you start comparing from further afield the fords really dont do very well.
There are mk2 astra doing 8s, and chevvy cobalts doing 6s

Still NA then Lloyd ?
After we broke the green nova we were going to do a KA with a ST engine on gas, would of been alright but to match Gaz'd Corsa we knew it would be far easier to atleast start with a turbo engine rather than have all the development issues they have had over the years.
Any pics about or is it secret squirrel

the plan is to keep adding nos to a near standard engine, and find out first hand what the limits are to the st170 engine.
iam also building a gt35 engine for next year, once the suspension and traction issues have been sorted.

If you go down the route of using 2 kits you could run a lot, don't get me wrong though you WILL blow an engine or two up finding the limits but I am confident those engines are more than up for it, maybe more so than a xe judging on whats used inside them.

They are road legal tyres in their country of origin, they arent wrinkles and they are fully treaded, the only reason they arent uk road legal is they havent paid to put them through the paperwork, if they were submitted I suspect they would pass.

Not taking away from what is a stunning achievement....and not forgetting the whopping 166mph over the 1km at TOTB too !!!
The MT DR's would never be legal in the UK/Euro. Some of the rules dictate, for example
a 50mm circle must contain a certain percentage of tread for water dispersal. The tyres must also be capable of expelling a certain quantity of water at xx mph.
I doubt any of the dedicated drag radial DOT tyres would ever meet those requirements. The likes of 888's etc probably just scrape through.
And dont forget too....those wrinkle walls are DOT approved too !! lol, or Hooisers DR's with just a pair of stripes around them. Crazy Americans !!! The scary thing is, people actually drive on them over there.
As for the FWD Golf in the 9's ?? was that recent ? I thought Andy's car was still the fastest fwd ? He ran a 10.0x last year, at 150+ !!
