AA or RAC?
 

Right, few weeks before ford fair and i think joining up would be a good idea!

but which is better?

for roadside & recovery for me as a driver or passenger in any car is £71 with the rac, or £77 with the aa!

This is one of those topics that won't actually get answered but it WILL probably turn into a petty argument.

I'm an RAC man myself!

rac, i used to work for a recovery firm in lincs, the rac treat you better. the aa on 2 occasions have left me waiting more than 6 hours for recovery after breaking down through basically poor communication, ya ring up 2 hrs later an they dont even know you have broken down, once is acceptable but twice they did this to me

having said all this the firm i found best was brittania rescue

I've been with the RAC for ages now, and only needed to use them once. They were spot-on. :DD:

i've switched from aa to rac... aa wont pick up your car if you smash it up... they charge whereas rac do it no problems...also i had an arguement with aa ... i've got a bmw 328tourer.. i think its slightly lowered... not by me thats how i bought it, when i needed it low loaded home they tried to charge me over a hundred pounds for the 40 mile journey... telling me thay had to send a special truck as my car was low....its not that bloody low!!!!!! plus rac is cheaper....:-)

Been with AA for a few years now. Everytime they have been excellent, can't fault them one bit.

AA picked up a car I was in after accident, RAC gouged and killed 4 brand new alloys transporting a car that had blown it's gearbox, but it's more to do with who comes out as RAC use lots of contractors like the twats Kerleys of Norwich.

AA by a mile, they actually try and repair the car, and their drivers have a large amount of training , RAC (Rent A Clown) generally only do easy fixes, and tend to just recover you rarther than repair.

My mate works for the RAC never known anyone more committed to their work than him, so RAC for me.

green flag have got to be the worst for advertising cheap but when you apply its a fortune

my gaffer owns his own recovery business so id bell him,get it on a low loader back to work,work the next sat for free and jobs a goodun

AA for me we where in the RAC and ran out of diesel and they refused to come out i was not impressed.

was with rac for years but got too pricey so now im with gem they are less than half of what rac wantcant comment on service as i have not used them yet

RAC for me and the misses, sister is with Green flag.

Mate works for RAC and my sisters fella recovers for greenflag in her area - hence our choices.

good choice imo, i've been with trhe AA before and always had to wait ages to be recovered or to even get a driver to me :sad:
I'm now with the RAC and i've only had one callout but they where with me in 20mins and sorted the problem out in no time at all :clap:

Im thinking of binning AA as they want almost £160 to renew and i only want a roadside assistance and recovery option.

Had a couple of poor experiences with the AA - One included being left in a lay-by with wife, baby and 2 year old for over 4 hours. They sent out a bloke to diagnose it, sent out another to 'rescue us' but he only had space for 2 passengers, then when the right sized truck turned up the bloke driving it said that he'd only just had the call and was based 5mins away!!!

So went with the RAC and they've been fine ever since - apart from the call centre bird who took my cash assuring me that is was the same service as AA Relay, only to find out that they'd only take me to the nearest garage and not to my destination.

Basically there's good and bad people who work for both - the RAC have more of their own vans (IIRC), and don't subcontract as many jobs so I figured I'd get a better service that way.

Been with the RAC now for 5 yrs called out a couple of times to me everyday runner an Escort van, never had a problem so the old saying if if anit broke dont fix it!

I think AA are ripping me off!!

AA for me got them out more than a few times brillient fix the car 5 times and only twice they couldent fix the problem. escorts 4 ya lol

i recently joined the AA, thinking that there's really not much in it service wise as it only takes one bad example of service to put you off.

the cost for a year for personal for me and the missus in any vehice was £100, but do it through quidco and you get £50 back :top:

Had to call out the AA the other day when i had a little acident with a can of coke in my Jeep.

They were quick, polite and didn't take he piss as much as i would have!

Just phone them and tell them you'll go to a competitor if they don't price match, that's what I do as AA try it on every year, as RAC did hoping that I won't notice the price rise, it always works.
For joint cover I pay £98 any car as driver or passenger, if you tell them or register as disabled you get priority call out too.
My dad broke down about 8-10 miles from home, was the fuel pump on his SD1, it's a intank pump and tank off to do, but still they sent a van to fix who called another van to fix, who then called a truck, that came from Boston, Lincs to East Anglia to recover car, in all 7 hours, they were told everytime it was not roadside fixable, it was RAC he was with, the RAC men have been fine just the structure lets them down.
I now have the opportunity to go with greenflag at a heavy discount(£43 joint cover) but according to the info I have they only take you to nearest garage, NOT to the destination of your choice, is this correct ?

Been with the AA for years but I'll be switching to the RAC this year after a recent breakdown where I was left by the AA for nearly 3 hours near junction 6 of the M1. If I'd been in the middle of nowhere I could have accepted it. Worst was that someone else broke down who had RAC membership and the RAC were there in minutes and even had a look at my car to see if he could get me going again.

The services are only as good as the people they send out or contract imo.

rac everytime they were great with me and my mate when his clutch blew up on the nurburgring :top:

RAC have out of date computer fault finders.
my vivaro broke down the other day and they didint have that on there computer as it was last updated in 2001
stupid! but i get it free with my barclays account

excellant i shall abuse the AA on phone and get them to change the online account so i can get cheaper price and downgrade the cover to the level i want (i dont want stay mobile, just recovery) as surprise surprise thier website wont allow you to downgrade cover on renewal.

Plus of course i still want the online discount :cry:

It depends on the level of cover. You need recovery at least to get long distance recovery. Theyve qouted me £90 a year for that so if you can get it for £43 then cool!! Probably worth looking into T&C's though.

AA really are a bunch of cowboys!!!

you ring thier help line and go through to the "thinking of leaving AA" option and it hangs you up with an excuse that they are too busy due to high numbers of breakdowns :cry:

yet go through to the option to renew membership and you get straight through!!

Im with the AA through my Lloyds bank account and have had to use them 3 times in 1 month due to 2 split pipes and a blown head gasket 2 weeks ago.

Cant fault them to be honest. Had to wait over an hour for the recovery tow truck when the gasket went but all in all im happy with them

i pay £17 a month for aa services/phone insurance/holiday etc to the bank.

I cannot comment on the others as i have had no dealings with them
