Am I being unreasonable?

Right, as a few of you may know, I'm in the process of getting the bodywork sorted on my saph.

I took my car to the bodyshop on the first of this month for a few bits to be done and a full respray in frozen white. I gave the guy £500 up front and was told that it would be done in 2 weeks. As long as it was done before a week or so before castle combe so I could fit it all back up in time I wasn't bothered.

My problem is I have taken the whole week off work to help take all the doors off etc, but he wants the doors taken off after the car has been primered. It was supposed to be primered by last Thursday. Everyday I have gone up to take the doors off and I keep getting told 'definately tomorrow'. Tomorrow arrives, same story. Tomorrow never seems to come!!!

Don't get me wrong, I know Rome wasn't built in a day but my car has sat there in exactly the same state for over a week now with nothing at all being done to it. Other work is coming in after and getting done before mine!

My question is am I being unreasonable for expecting at least something to be happening with my car?!!

Just getting a bit frustrated with it now.

hate places like that had that trouble with a few painters, your not being un reasonable at all mate

Gazzonator 20-06-2009 12:30 PM

Thing is the standard of work that comes out of there is really good as a few of my mates use him so I don't really want to piss him off but I have completely wasted one whole week and, quite honestly, don't think it will be ready in time for combe.

Feel like banging my head against a wall!!:wall: :wall::wall:

What have they said about the time limit you've given them?

GUZZLER 20-06-2009 12:51 PM

in a polite way tell him to get the fuck on with it, if that dosn't work then tell him outright to get the fuck on with it

He said he will have it done no probs but what he says and what actually happens is another thing!:?

garages are always the same, they seem to have no grasp of real time. my 2 week job ended up 17 weeks of constantly having to push him to get done.

Hi Matt, how's things?

I've told him numerous times about when I need it done for but doesn't seem to make a difference. Thing is I don't want to get really arsey as I want a good job done! Don't want it turning out like my series 2 did!!

every body shop i have ever used has been like that mate, not looking to slate any bodyshops off however, best thing to do i find is get it done out of show season else your end up missing it all, also the last thing you want to do is piss the guy off so he rushes it....

I tried to get it done over the winter but he wouldn't do until the weather got better!!

shouldnt be a problem if theyve got an oven ;)

Nath 20-06-2009 01:23 PM

I couldn't be dealing with people like that as I like to know where things are at. I'd pull my £500 out and go somewhere else.

With paint shops there only as good as there last job. The next job could be a right fuck up!

I've just fallen out with a mate over the paint job on my X5. I waited eight weeks to get it back after having the front end and both sides done. It looks like the paints been blown on with a straw. The car is less than a year old!

It really does look shit and a shade out. He said pop it back in again in two weeks and he'll do it again. Like fuck will he do it again nor will he get paid! What a minge!

I know how frustrating it can be :wall:

fuzzy 20-06-2009 01:28 PM

going to mates can be awkward. i prefer to take mine to unknown places and pay the going rate with full come back if things do go wrong. mates always seem to take even longer as well.

Gazzonator 20-06-2009 01:31 PM

He does have an oven so I don't know why he couldn't have done it sooner.

As for the money up front, I know what it's like to be messed around with work so now whenever I get asked to do work for people, I get the dosh for materials, parts etc before I start. Been fucked over too many times in the past 'yeah go ahead and get the bits and I will give you the money' then I get the call 'I don't want it done now'!!

That's the way I work now which is why I gave the dollar.

Just frustrating now I'm getting fobbed off.
