Smile Is it worth buying a New car?

just wondering if it's actually worth buying a brand new car? I've always wanted a new car, but don't fancy loosing £0000's as it leaves the forcourt.

Anyone got pro's and cons?

If you are pissed off with running older cars with shelling out on repairs, new parts etc.. and just want to budget x-amount for a car per month with no repairs to consider. A car to get in, drive, turn off and forget about until it needs its yearly service/oil change... then its a brilliant idea.

However, to make it worth while, you need to be keeping it for a reasonable length of time otherwise you'll get caught up and bitter about the depreciation because brand new cars do lose a chunk of wedge as soon as you register and move them from the forecourt.

Only brand new car I have bought is my Impreza STi, for the above reasons (old cars breaking, etc) and the only reason I never went 6-12 month old was that Subaru were doing a HUGE discount on my particular model... which helped to stave off the poor residuals enjoyed by Subaru and made it only a few thousand more than used, previous shape, Impreza STi that were on the forecourt..

Cheers,
Grant

i had a sierra cossie,a mk1 orion ghia and a mk6 escort estae, the cos was the toy,the orion a 2nd toy/everyday car and the escort was for dump runs, dogs etc.i got fed up shelling out every month taxing, fixing, moting and generally maintaining 3 cars and getting my ear bent about having old cars lying about.so me and the mrs went halves on the repayments for a year old focus titanium estate.cost £13500,would have been about £24000 new with the spec and sold the escort and orion.its so much better just driving it and not having to fix it(its under warranty too) so i would say buy a nearly new car that somebody else has taken a big hit on and then enjoy it.

Thanks for the answers

Ive got an 03 plate Octavia VRS which is a very nice car to drive and after 1 year of owning I still love it Just might have an option to give me Mrs the Skoda and by a new car (Using hers in the scrappage scheme). My main reasons for new is no MOT for 3 years and warranty for any faults. also ballon payment finance so I can upgrade in a few years without too much hassle.

Anyone know the best finance options?

I agree with all the comments above - however I would prefer a loan rather than finance, normally loans are cheaper and the car is yours, rather than the finance company owning the car until its fully paid off.

Now is the time to buy while dealers are desperate to shift some cars, you should get a fair old discount on pretty much anything that doesn't currently have a waiting list!
