bodge up job...
...my cooling fans not cutting in on my old banger runaround diesel astravan. if i ran a heavy cable direct from the fan to the battery live and another heavy cable from the fan negative through the bulkhead to a dash mounted switch and back to the battery would that likely cause any problems? obviously i need to manually switch the fan on to cool when nessesary.

there's no problem leaving the fan on all the time once warmed up...as long as the thermostat is in good working order. I ran a fiesta pop for years like that.
And the fan will be fine like that, just put a fuse in -line just for good measure.
Cheers

oh yeah, fuses...i didnt think of that. i better go and fit one now.
there wont be any problem with the wires overheating? my cosworth twin fans used to melt switches until a relay was fitted but that temp bodge up had the live going to the dash mounted switch rather than the negative.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Wouldn't really matter if you had live or earth going through the switch as the current flow is still technically going to be the same. I would put a relay in for good measure but if your not worried it should be fine with a fuse and a decent switch.
