Ringers...Anyone bought one??
Was talking to an old pal, got me thinking.
He bought a car a few years ago, turned out to be a little less legit than he thaught, then by pure fluke, i was brousing pistonheads a few years ago, someone had posted in the ads about a black 3dr was a booboo, it was also a car i was 95% going to do a px deal with and even knew the seller !! Has anyone been bitten? Any stories?? Speak up!

its more so back int he days, the amount of stags, mk1 escorts, marina's etc that were rung is unreal, i pretty much gurantee most of you on here with mk1s even tho they seem completely genuine atleast 40 percent of em are stolen
however there isnt a chance atall they will come on top they were done a v v long time ago. sitting int he pub sometimes listening to the dodgy older traders, what they used to get away with back int he day was unreal

Bought a nice white 3 door about 2 years ago, turned out to be an a plate shell. But not only that apparently the previous owner rolled it at knockhill then bought a genuine shell and rung it up with the numbers of the old one ths turning a genuine cossie into a a reg ringer lol
Shame cause it was 100% rot free never welded etc and was a good spec 500bhp motor etc

I sold it as a unfinished project ie the engine had just been freshly built and needed putting back in the car etc, as far as i know its still in peterlee in the north east and the bloke knows its an a reg shell but doesnt know about it being a ringer. I only found out the history after i sold the car on as someone seen the add and contacted me about t bt i'd already sold it.
I just hope i bump into te daft cunt who sold me it at one of the shows

got offered an astra sri 04 plate at a good price, nearly bought it but then a friend warned me to steer clear, tunred out the guy who owned it bought it of 3 blokes in manchester and discovered it was a ringer and was going to flog it on.
Lucky for me, the guy selling happened to know a mate of mine who told me!!

I had a red E reg XR3i (E299 YKN) taken off me about 9 years ago, police had it for ages, said it was a ringer, but they gave me it back about 6 months later with a number stamped on the drivers side strut top bit, was a mess when I got it back, they had took number plates off, clocks out, pulled carpets up near floor numbers etc, and interior was all mouldy.

bought an ERST a few years back with the intention to break it anyways, and it appeared to have been a ringer of a ringer of a ringer of a ringer........ bout 6 bloody different tags welded in the floor over its life span
even had a random old number plate under the back seat bench that turned out to match 1 of the old floor tags lol
classy car, its bits went to good use but the shell came to a fitting end, providing an afternoon of angle grinder fun

I worked for a joiner a few years ago who is car mad and has been rallying for years. When he was younger he bought a brand new car which was quick in it's day(can't remember what he said it was now).
He left the dealership with it and on the way home was putting it through it's paces. Went into a roundabout a bit quick and hit the kerb at high speed. He got out and looked at it, and the chassis was out of line, so he just took it straight back to the garage and told them there was something not right with it.
They took the car and gave him his money back.
