i have milky brown oil in the sump...

there is a oil leak from sump where it connects to block ......very bad

but the car fire ups , and not got smoke smoke pouring out the exhaust

not checked the water or oil cap yet ....

away to do that now...

is there any other reason water and oil could mix without head gasket failing ...

yeah browny water , and little sludge in oil filler neck...

Certainly looks that way mate.

What car is it? Slim chance but have you checked the oil cooler if it has one? They can sometimes fail and cause water to mix with the oil.

Deff sounds like head gasket failure mate, usually when it goes on 1 of the water\oil ways. The only other way i can think of which happened to me was the block was cracked in 3 places around 3 bolt holes and water was seeping thru that way, so another possibility.

Oh and didnt smoke or anything either but was the same as u have, oil like baileys and sludge on the oil cap etc!
