Default Cooling Fan dead on mk6 Escort 2.0? HELP!

As a boil over on the M25 has shown me, my fan has packed up of late!

I pulled off the thermoswitch and bridged the terminals and only heard a relay clicking under the dash...and the fuse is ok

Do cooling fans just die?

I've had cars far older and fans worked fine!

Car is an air con model, and have a horrid feeling something could be amiss with the loom, or is that unlikely?

Thanks

Weeksy

I had over-heating problems with my '96 Si, it was a fooked relay which is located behind the battery on a plastic panel. Bloody expensive relay but it did the trick.

Hi dude,

I checked in the manual and it didn't list one for the fan which I thought was bloody bizarre!

Car is getting on my nerves! Never had a car boil over on the hard shoulder before!!!

And I have had some real dungballs!

Cheers

Have you tried turning the fan by hand? A friend of mine had a mk5 escort , and the fan siezed completely.

If it turns, try wiring it direct to the battery to see if it goes!

I have it seems to move ok.

Was working only weeks agao dude.

That was my next plan! Not sure I want it to go wired directly or not, means wiring aggro!!

It must have a relay on fuse box right?!

Disconnect the wiring plug to it, turn air con on (so cooling fan should cut in), then test to see if you have voltage to the plug. That will tell u if its a fault with the fan or something in the wiring!

no problem, deffo get one, you can buy them for less than Ł10, I think mine was Ł6.99 from b&q, very handy to have in the garage, and it'll save hours of head scratching under the bonnet!

If you put your hand over the battery there is a flimsey plastic panel directly behind it. The relay is mounted to the rear of that. You should be able to see a little metal clip at the top, that's part of the mount.
