How would I go about working away???
As I was made redundent at the end of Jan and having no work how would i go about working away? Say for instance Holland, Germany?
Does anyone know how i would go about this or would it be a waste of time?
My qualifications arn't mega just C&G in Turning, Milling (no cnc) some Mechanical fitting (well 3years of my appenticeship) CNC brake press operating/programing, Mig and a little arc welding but no certs. Other bits aswell but nothing worth mentioning.
Any help would be grateful

Would have thought you'd need more experience or qualifications to get noticed abroad or you will be just taken on to labour or as semi-skilled.
I have TONS of engineering qualifications. City& Guilds, NVQ, GNVQ, ONC and so on....most of the first stuff you do arent worth much. I rememeber when i first started, they gimme a grinding qualification for just grinding a drill tip and a chisel!!
On job experience is always best, the Foreman/Chargehand whatever will tell in minutes if you have what they want.
As for workin aboard, can't help....would it be worth it? Housing and food will cost ya. Having no friends costs ya, lol, sounds weird but true. I know as i went thorugh it when i moved South. You can never buy any bulks and its always meals for one.You never know where the cheap stuff is, petrol, snacks, drink. Learning a new town costs.
By the time its all added up you could be worse off than if you do something over here. IMO.

i applied for a job advertised in the daily star for joiners in holland, the company sorted everything and i just had to turn up, no checks were made on my qualifications as they checked my references from previous employers. when i got there the majority were chancers anyway but after originally planning on doing 3 months i ended up staying 2 years.
good experience but i wouldnt do it again.

I used to work in France in a beer yard ( cash & carry ) for 7 years 10 years ago. I got the job because i was friends with the boss before he was my boss.
One day he just said to me...."Come and work for me for a 1k a week"
Flat came with the job as did the travel ex's
I would say, its who you know , not what you know if you wanna get a decent wage abroard

i can't see there being much anywhere to be honest things have slowed down over here to. what makes it worse is my job depends on the import and sales of mustangs hummers corvettes and chev trucks. with the aussie dolla down to the american dolla the cars have gone up by 25% saying that we are awaiting 60 chev trucks so it aint that bad.
