it may drop slightly but with a still ever growing following then i can see the cars lose a few thousand in the next couple of years but nothing major really paceo.

Yes i think it will definatly have an impact on the prices of the Mk1 over the next 5 or so years. Exactly how much and what will happen after that is anyones guess really.

i cant see it making a difference. they're holding there value very well, but having said that are gradually going down as you would expect...

I dont think the new FRS will have much of an impact on the MK1 prices tbh - the prices of the MK1 are currently easily sub £10k & will drop more but thats the same as the majority of performance cars in the same group all of which have been affected by the financial changes over the last year
Prices are what you'd expect for the age of the car anyway at 5+ years old & being outside of warranty, etc & certain problems & parts are expensive to fix in addition to more expensive tax brackets, etc in coming years
That said don't quote this thread on the RSOC as quite a few of them still think even the average mileage & spec FRS is worth £13k or more

Won't drop off for a while IMO, if anything might push them up for a bit. General concensus no-one will buy the new RS for at least a year, amazing as it is so hard to justify a £30k Focus (know how many times it's been said )

Wonder if they'll drop sharply like the Racing Puma has recently? A couple of years back you couldn't get one for under £8-9K, now you can pick a cracker up with 50Kmiles for about £4K like my mate did.
Wouldn't suprise me if they did drop a little bit with the new one, but they're never going to fall like a stone are they.

As said, buy a clean genuine car with low miles at a good price and you wont be loosing much cash.Tatty, or high mile cars will always be worth less.
New model will have little or no impact at the moment, a guy spend 30k on a focus is not choosing between that or a mk 1 two different markets.
The FRS is a limited run car, and just like 3drs, escossies, there will always be people who want a clean original example and willing to pay to get it.

You're clearly not getting it if you dont see my point. I've made it quite clear that it's stupid to say that they are holding value when they are actually LOSING value.
I dont "think" prices are going to drop...they ARE dropping, fact!
I bought one very cheap and my original budget couldve been 10k only in november. I'm Sooooooooooooo glad i didnt spend that as i dont think they are worth that now. Look at Guzzler struggling to sell what looks like a lovely example at 10k now! The guy asking 11700 in for sale section can dream on!

6month i think u mean 24?! i sold a mint 25k miler for 12k march 2007. it was well priced at the time.... i know cars are cheaper up north but still lol!

Not until 2011 it wont as the government deferred the £400+ emissions tax bracket for '01 to '06 cars like the FRS - from April 1st '09 12 months tax on the FRS is £215 & then in 2010 i believe its £245 for a year
However i would bet money that whichever party is in charge by 2010 (once elections/financial issues are resolved), will reintroduce the plans for the £400+ tax to run from April 2011 - just the way it is unfortunately

agreed with the sensible comments, the new model wont really affect the value of the old ones.
it's not like with M3s where theyre not limited editions and everyone just wanted "the new one" so the prices plummet when it comes out, theyre a niche car witha niche market and no car with the same name will have an affect on them.
do you think that mk2 RS2000 prices fell when the mk5 came out?

ALL cars have taken a whack in the last 6 months. The fact is though that a limited run car like the RS will retain decent value in comparision to a bogo mass produced bass model.
it will aslo have its followers who will want a tidy example - those people don't care about evo's scoobs etc etc, why do we still have escossy selling for 10k plus? or rs500 ? because people want them - they wont care a bout the new rs as it will be the mk1 they like for what ever reason.
In years to come frs's will be going through at a few grand, but will be nails, low milers in mint original condition will still be fetching 6,7,8k , just like S1 turbos range from 1k up to 10k and one at the moment is 17k
Problem is, can you afford to keep a car in cotton wool to maintain it's value and would you want to?

BCA Pulse - February 2009
The latest BCA Pulse report for February shows that average used car values have risen for the fourth month running. February 2009 posted a £435 rise against January (up 8.4%), which was itself £300 up on December’s figures.
Performance against CAP continues to improve, increasing by over six points to 103.61% - the highest monthly figure on record for all-sector values since Pulse began reporting. This follows last month’s increase of nearly seven points, which had itself set the highest figure recorded in well over a year. Year-on-year, the CAP performance was over six points ahead of February 2008. This is largely as a result of the market moving faster and more positively than anyone predicted, including the guides.
While average monthly figures remain behind those recorded in 2008, the difference is narrowing – February 09 was just £282 adrift of February 08, while in January the gap was over £650.
Stock from all sources has been even more limited in February than it was in January. The continued high demand from professional sellers combined with the relative dearth of stock has kept sale conversions high - averaging over 90% at BCA in February - and values firm.
BCA Communications Director Tony Gannon commented “There is now little doubt that used values are making a seasonal but possibly significant recovery from the low points of last year. While a seasonal uplift in January and February has been commonplace in recent years, the strength of this has come as something of a surprise in 2009 considering the continuing economic conditions – much as it did in 2008, in fact. Possibly the market is experiencing some deferred demand from last year, as potential buyers held back from any big-ticket purchases as the economic turmoil became apparent.”

With four consecutive months of price rises across the widest basket of cars, the BCA Report suggests a recovery in average used prices has occurred.
But the question remains how sustainable is this recovery? Gannon added “While supplies of vehicles are relatively thin in the wholesale market, it is likely that average prices will be maintained at this higher level. With no indications that volumes are going to ramp up hugely over the next few weeks, BCA expects March to remain fairly strong and with a late Easter, April may also be relatively buoyant. Why the hell would they perk up exactly? As sais above why would someone with 28k ready to buy a focus decide no lets get a 6yr old mk1 frs instead? Why wouldnt they look to a better car like an evo/subaru etc thats worth a bit more? Even a focus st.

If someone decides they want a Focus RS aka 'buying into the idea of one' but can't justify a £30k Focus they may instead buy the proven first marque...
If they're just bringing £30k to the market then OF COURSE they'll just go get a Scooby or Evo for the money if they decide against a Focus. Like now why would anyone buy a Mk1 over a Evo 6/7 or Scoob STI....preference.
Long term passing interest in RS' sparked again by all the hype for the Focus, rather than proper enthusiast... HTH
