Default Opinions please.

I've spoken to the dealer earlier and reckon I can get THIS for a straight £4k, so I'm off for a gander tomorrow.
Has anyone had one? What was it like? etc...

Or would I be better saving a bit more and waiting 'til next year for a 330 instead.

It is very tempting at that price, yes.

LOL

Those 'back lights that are sprayed black' are actually rather expensive genuine depo smoked rear lights, that are now rather rare, so

I'd prefer a 330 but I've got to wait a bit for one of them, and I'm not very patient.

Cheers fella, if it's as good as it looks I'm having it.

I've had an insurance quote already for £461 fully comp, not bad on a group 16 motor.

Just check for the dreaded subframe problem the E45 323 and 328's suffered from.

I'd much, much rather go for a 330 tbh

Can you elaborate on the subrame thing. Instead of doing proper research on them I've just been watching videos on Youtube.

I've heard bad things about the smg auto thingy and wouldn't have bothered it if it had've been. I like the 'pulls like a train' bit though.

Well, in short, the rear subframe has an annoying tendency to basically split in two.

Plenty of pics on various E46 forums and such like. Some look pretty horrific to be fair

Thank you for that, I genuinely did not have a clue. The one I'm looking at is an early one which is the most prone too. I'm taking me torch.

That's what I thought, but I'm gonna try and be sensible for once and look at it properly. It would have been awesome with a tan leather interior.......

m8 i bought one 5 weeks back
same spec same colour but mine has newer alloys
I paid £3650 for a v plate with 101,000 miles
only difference between that one and mine is that mine is grey leather
If the sub-frame is fine and you get it for 4k its a good deal i think, but i think maybe you could get it for a bit less that 4k

The seller is a bit of a monkey, it was up at £4295 on Saturday but there weren't any pics. There's pics today and it's up at £4495. I asked him why on the phone and he said 'cosmetic refurbishment'. I told him I only had £4k and he said to come have a gander. So I'm checking for overspray as well as a knackered subframe now.

Right, bit of an update for anyone interested. I finally managed to see it this morning after him being away constantly the last couple of days.

The car is very tidy, alloys need refurbing and it's had a bit of paint on the front wing but overall it's good. I got underneath with me torch and the subframe mounting points are mint, no cracks no nothing.
The only thing bugging me is the history, it's BMW up to 40k in 2004 and nothing since apart from three stamps from a Bosch garage with no mileage written down. No bills, nowt. The car ran sweet enough and he said he's gonna contact the garage to see if he can get copys of the work done but I'm put off to be honest.

I'll keep looking me thinks.

Lol at the above!

There are hundreds of used bmw's to choose from out there, and considering this economic climate it is definately a buyers market, so if you are not 100% happy with the car then find another one! Plenty more fish in the sea and all that

My thinking exactly fella. There was one point where I was sat in the sumptuous leather playing with the electric rear quarters and getting all giddy when I nearly said fuck it I'll have it.

so it's had paint and now it's got no history on top of it being a yoyo on the price

offer him a pint and a curly wurly plus half a bag of read salted hula hoops and then walk away

it might be great and a bargain, but it's looking like one of those motors that's going to become a little expensive in the near future
