It may physically fit into another laptop but unless the mainboard chipset is the same then it wont boot up. TBH the easiest way is to connect it to the second channel on a desktop PC.

or get a cheap usb connector off the net.

I wouldnt be too sure windows wont boot.

Seems so on and off as to whether different specs allow windows to boot.

I once changed a motherboard and chip to amd setup from intel and windows booted fine on existing HD.

Then another time i installed new ATI graphics card and needed a Restore.

It seems to be just the luck of the draw.

Dont forget a lot of chipsets on cheaper Laptops/Motherboards (advent) are so similair anyway that it may not make a difference.

This one might be better as it looks to do IDE and SATA

without doubt if you put in a laptop with the same family of motherboard then chances are it may boot. But if the laptop is a few years old then if you put it in a newer laptop then the chipsets are unlikely to be the same. If you changed the IDE driver to std dual-channel ide then it would boot but as he was not expecting it to die then I doubt very much he did tbh!

Yes it is possible but doubtful.
