PS3 Fan test / Clean
Been reading up on a few bits n pieces regarding the PS3 and found out there is a kind of 'test' you can do which speeds the fan up to maximum RPM, and should dislodge any lumps of crap on the mainboard.
Not sure if it works on all PS3's, but did on mine.
If you want to give it a shot, here are the steps;
1) turn power off with switch at back
2) HOLD down eject button, and keep it held down while switching it back on at the back.
It will speed it up for about 20 seconds, then beep. Just turn power off again at back and back on again then.
Might be useful for some people?

Are they the 1st gen ones?
Maybe it wasnt implemented until later on?
Ive got an 80GB (well, 320gb now) and works on mine.
Oh and as a sidenote, to whoever does it, dont get doing it every week, because its not in the manual, its only something engineers should be doing. So, I'll probably do mine every 6 months or so.

The ladies love it French
I know a little bit about this, it doesn't work on the 60GB models. You can however do a 'fan test' by turning the 60GB upside down whilst they're plugged in and running
It fools the CPU into thinking it's overheating and quickly goes up to full fan speed. I personally just use a strong hoover to suck all the dust out at regular intervals though.
