Default Tips on starting a diesel in cold weather?????

My transit doesn't like to start in very cold conidtion as in today, it is the banana type engine so has no glow plugs just a cold start valve.
Had it looked at by a diesel specialist in dec as it wasn't starting, and he said it was fine only the batt was a bit knackered. It now has a brand new heavy duty item on there.

Any tips please ?

the only way to improve starting withouyt glowplugs is to make sure your injection timing is spot on, make sure the engines not too knackered (plenty of compression) and make sure the fuel system is clean and free of debris.

waxing of filters can affect performance so a decent service is always a good thing if its due.

if it DONT start on it's OWN steam then THERE'S A PROBLEM!

USING EASY START IS LIKE A DRUG TO THE ENGINE AND YOU'LL END UP NEEDING IT ALL THE TIME!

YOU say you fitted a heavy duty battery but does it have the correct cold cracking amps/volts for your Tranny? also check the starter is in good condition? and as mentioned above IS the engine in good condition ie DOES it need to crank over alot to build up the compression?

The battery is the the heavy duty one suggested in the halfords booklet , make of that what you will .lol

Starter does spin sometimes 2-3 time a year so maybe i'll have a look at that.

When hot its on the button, but when cold no it takes a few turns even in summer first thing.

This is very common on these engines in cold weather, start by changing the oil and replacing it with 5w30 semi-synthetic, if you still have issues then remove all the battery leads to the start and earth and clean the with emory paper and reconnect.
