potholes in the road ???
can you claim against the local council if it damages your car ?
went over one before on a stretch of road going over saddleworth moor, no lights on the road at all,
made a right fucking bang, was doing about 60mph as its national speedlimit along there,
back passenger side wheel now has a nice dent in it and i dont know yet wether the tyre is now losing air
question is can i and who do i put a claim into for a new wheel ?
what info do i need ? pictures ? maps etc etc ?

you need pictures but the council is usually only liable if it can be proved that it had been previously reported to them and they had failed to fix the hole before you hit it as they cant be expected to survey all roads all the time. its a long drawn out affair designed to put you off claiming. my mate gave up in the end with his.

Dont know why your complaining, its not like we pay hundreds of pounds every year to drive on this shit!!!!
On a serious note, my sister hit a hole down town and took pictures with ruler in the hole to show depth etc and they paid up, the day after she reported it they were out there filling it in.

I put a claim against the council last year some time, I found 3 potholes directly outside my drive. It did nearly £500 worth of damage to my rs2000 suspension. I filed a claim and its currently being fought through there insurance company. I ring them every month to see how the claim is gettig on. The council arent in any rush to help out...

yea after 2 weeks and 3 phonecalls. The council fill them in and they re-appear after a few months, infact they are showing through again right now alongside a few other potholes. The whole town has potholes similer to this all over the roads, sister-in-law broke her rear spring on her corsa yesterday.
Council just keep filling them in and they keep re-appearing after a few months - false economy.....

lol funny thing is, my roads about a mile and a quarter long, late last year we recieved notices through the post that they were resurfacing road. "Wahhhhhhhoooooo" I shouts, we have always had shit roads. They resurfaced about .5 of a mile then left the worst bit, our bit! They resurfaced the good part of the road and left the potholes and cracked part....
Cant be the credit crunch, they have recently spent Thousands re-furbishing the Council offices and gardens and that was as soon as they started the work on the road so they cant be that skint.....

added info:
A road that runs parralel to ours has been fitted with speed-mountains (retarders lol). Thats understandable but they have been put down in a non residential area of the road. Now, our road has a mobile police speed camera that sits there every few weeks. I see this as a cash making exercise, Traffic will avoid the speed humps and all flow down my road straight to the awaiting camera. So, road with humps gets avoided and my road has now twice to three times the amount of traffic running up and down it.
The council have denyed that its a cash making scheme, bearing in mind my roads the one with the school and park on. The next road has speed humps fitted and its a non residential road.....

i got a payout about 2 years ago from a pothole bending my wheel. took photos, showed the damage, and supplied quotes for a whole new set of wheels as mine had been discontinued.
no quibble, and they paid out pretty sharpish.
