ICE/ Speakers and amp, experts.. Help please!
I want to improve the sounds in the pimp machine, it already has installed a Pioneer KEH-P8200 head unit (old but I want to keep it) and I have been given a new Phoenix Gold QX4150 amp. I need to know what would be the best speakers to buy, they need to be no larger than 10x8" but need to work with the amp.
I can only fit a small pair of speakers in the front so what's the best way to wire them? Fronts through the stereo and rears through the amp??
I know less than nothing about amps and speakers so any sound advice would be welcome!

Most SPL cars only have front speakers. What I would do is buy the best quality speakers you can for the fronts, and not bother with anything for the back, or maybe keep the standards in for a bit of rear fill if you prefer.
Amp up the front ones, and you are on to a winner. I have used a few different speakers in my time, and i find the best ones are made by Rainbow, however if you are looking for cheaper ones, then Infiniti are very good.
Were you thinking about adding a subwoofer?

Here is two that I would choose, however you really need to know what size speaker your front doors will take.
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/rain...65-p-3853.html
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/infi...9i-p-6732.html
Also, it is very beneficial to soundproof the doors, as this will give a vast improvement to sound quality!

what sort of music will you be listening too?
do you need a sub?
if not just get some compents that fit the front 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 " etc
and bung some 6x9"s in the rear, run both front and rears off the amp, as it has seperate gains.
these have loads from a few quid and upwards www.bassjunkies.com
Ive allways liked JBL cheep but not crap, shouldn't need to prend more than Ł100

Think of it this way, you don't go to a concert and stand with your back to the music, if you are listening to something you don't turn the other way. Its more natural to have the sound coming from the front. Putting the best speakers you can in the front and amping them is the best advice I can give you!

They are fitting into these, I can cut a hole in the bottom which will go through to the boot area.

6x9's in rear and 2 way components in the front doors
Use amp to power all 4 speakers use good quality cable(speaker)and power cables and phono connections
Job done
Depends what u want Martin?Rich has gone for a more high end approach mines more midway set up
What u really need in that is 4 12" subs 6 amps and tinted windows
Boombastic style
Just kidding

my opinion would be something like some
13cm kinetics up front with hollywood excusion in the back amp'd
they are what ive ran in 90% of my cars and cant fault them at all . a little pricey though

Alright Mart
The best setup, is to have a pair of GOOD front components and a rear sub. No full range speakers in the back at all.
You could use it in 4 channel mode, 2 channels to the front set of say Alpine components and get a DVC small compact sub for the boot.
The front speakers will amply fill the car with sound, with the sub to fill the bass notes.

martin, are you able to modify the fronts to accept convential round speakers? if you are then you are worthwhile putting a nice set of components in the front...
if not then uprate the front 6x4's by the looks of it, and put a good set of 6x9s on the back shelf if you are going for no sub...this way you will still get a nice amount of depth and bottom end with no sub...
if you are putting components in, bridge the amp and give them the most power you can...but this also depends on what speakers they are....
give me a budget and ill see what i can work out for you...
oh if my name doesnt give it away im in the audio scene...check out brands i deal with on www.teamspb.co.uk under products

Thanks so far guys (except Kev who can fuck off!! )
My problem is that I don't want to see any speakers inside of the car, so I have to use the std locations, just measured the fronts (they fit in the front kick panels) and they are pretty weedy.. Reason I don't want a sub is because I have no where to fit one and hate them floating about the boot space in a box.
I think what I really need to know is what wattage I need to get, they will be 4 ohm right?

Your in good hands with bassboy mate, listen to him and order from him, and if need be, get him to fit the equipment (90% fitting 10% equipment rule comes into play with speakers).

martin you got the model number of the speakers pictured above...the flash has blinded the first bit...
components are speakers which have the mid range and tweeter seperate...connected via a cross over - allows you to create a bit of a wider soundstage as the tweeters can be placed where you want in the car...
would you be prepared to go for a component version of the 6x4s? perhaps putting the tweeter on the dash or a pillars?
cheers TBL

front are definately 6x4's...do you think you would be able to fit 5x7's in there?...tweeters can be positioned low but then i would say save the money and get coaxials (like you have already)...if you can fir 5x7s in there...then you will benefit considerably and open up a whole new avenue as to how good you will get the front sounding...
the rear 6x9s wont be an issue whatsoever...
one thing i will say is invest in some good speaker cable and if possible, some sound deadening as mentioned already...again i can help you out on all the above

Kicker 6x4s in the front i would say and cdt or morel 6x9s in the back to retain sound quality and still get fairly loud...WELL in your budget to
have you got things like cabling (speaker/power cable, rca's etc) and sound deadening sorted?

I'm loving my current Focals in the front of my A4. Totally invisible outside the car and run from a Kenwood PS100 amp with 2 12" Kickers in the boot. Will add some back speakers run of another amp eventually

This is what I'd do for certain. I hate the idea of a 'sub' and whenever I've dicked around with amps I've done what you're thinking Martin (ie fronts and 6x9's)
The thing is Stu.H is right, it'll sound so much better the way he says. My brother in law always does this and I was a bit sceptical at first but it really works. Just components up front and a sub.
You could always get one of those JBL square sub things that doesn't take up loads of space and look so gay.
I'd like to sort mine but don't want a sub (being as I'm spending to make it faster) but in your BM I'd deffinately go for the fronts and a sub.

PM me your email ad and ill shoot over some prices for you
BTW, we deal with entry level equipment but from manufacturers from the 'big boy' leagues like hybrid audio, CDT, Atomic, Ascendant Audio, FI, Stinger etc etc...not you usual ghay kenwood, jvc, sony etc as you WILL get MILES better VFM and the sound difference betwee the brands will be like night and day!

I'd always go down the amped front components and a single sub route. But as the 6 series has an enclosed boot fitting a sub would be pointless. I'm never a fan of 6x9s in the rear, but to get some bass they'd be a sensible idea in this situation. It's a long car, so if the bass from the rear seems at all delayed try wiring them 'out of phase' as that can sort out the issue and improve the sound.
