Default Novice trackday at Brands Hatch

A mate of mine is bugging me to go do this with him, a novice track day, essentially to get a feel of track driving. I'm really interested in doing this but have a few questions so those who have had previous track experience if you could please advise. It's 3x20min sessions with an hour or so break in between each session, soooo....

1) This isn't a all out balls track day, it's a novice day. Will I be wearing out tyres, brake pads, cooking brake fluid etc? I'm guessing no since it is only a small amount of track time and won't be rinsing it all the way round.

2) My oil was last changed in February, covered about 5000 or so miles I think in that time period. Car is driven properly as well. I read somewhere it is common practice to change oil before a track day? Should I do this or do you think it wouldn't be necessary?

3) Obviously I should prepare my car properly for this...any pointers anyone can give?

Cheers!

Give you car a good checking over, before and after.

Take your time.

Check your tyre pressures.

Don't push too hard at first, respect other track users and have fun.

motorsportvision.co.uk

go to trackdays, car trackdays and select.

there are various tracks that hold it and different days.

Do the above and change your oil. Its only a few quid and its best to look after your engine when its going to be doing alot of hard work

the idea is to make sure you engine is in good condition. if theres nothing wrong with the oil it doesnt need canging, if there is - do it.

you'll probably be harder on the tyres and brakes as a novice as you wont be driving particuarly smooth, but it wont be something that catches you out, youll know if you need to cool it down a bit.

tyre pressures are very important to keep an eye on, as the tyre heats up the presssure will increase, you need to ensure the tyre is still at the correct pressure when hot, so take a guage with you and get ready to let some out out once theyre up to temp. (then remember to put it back it at the petrol station on your way home as they cool down... lol )

There is nothing wrong with oil as such, its sort of a mix between dark gold/light coffee brown ish. Like I said it is 8 months old and was just wondering whether I should change it. Don't want to stress the engine out as well as the brake fluid, brakes and tyres unnecessarily.

My mate reckons I am a killjoy as he's basically just taking his car there as it is even though I know he will prep it but I don't think he quite realises quite how much prep work and wear will happen even on a novice day.
