best cosworth tuners in scotland????
where would be the best place to take a sapphire cosworth to to have some work carried out on it up here in scotland? who does mapping etc etc. seems to be loads down south like NMS etc but not sure of up here. also im looking at a car that is fitted with a stage 1 chip and -31 actuator which claims about 270bhp, how easy is it to get the car up to around 330bhp and how much are you looking at? cheers.

ava all day long for engine work/mapping, or andy if your needs parts fitted or big mods done.
maybe a blinkered view but i really dont see why anyone would even consider going anywhere other than ava for mapping. in scotland that is

on the ag focus there is on the shopping list on the door the name fred crawford, now i remember a fred crawford from ireland who shoved a rs500 engine in a mk2 escort screamer when i wasn't old enough to drive, them were pioneering days when the 2wd sierra cos was still a showroom car. is it the same fred ???

apparently allan wanted to acess the box by running it on the rollers.after id nursed it up there and specifically said i wanted the box fully rebuilt.my last words to him were dont run it on the rollers until box has been rebuilt and im there to see it.
and no it was a power run as he said he done one power run and he reconned it was ok.

As said above no one in Scotand can live map the standard ecu, or atleast no one that i found when looking into it.
If its a fairly common spec get an off the shelf chip from one of the tuners down south then just get the car checked over and set up, up here once its fitted.

thats bad luck mate. would you have felt better tho if you were there to see it? i very much doubt anything was done differently to cause it that you wouldnt have done driving it yourself or if you were there? i've watched bloody LOADS of runs over the years and its a meticulous process and monitoring everything at all times. not like a rip straight through the rev range
anyway sorry to hear that

a drive down to blackpool is surely a bit excessive for a run of the mill stage 3 isnt it? maybe beyond that id head south but for an off the shelf job someone local like dastek in fife , falkland performance or rjm in glenrothes would do the job.theres star performance in kirkaldy as well. .g

as above they always spend ages strapping the car down and triple checking everything before it even gets started up
they do tend to be a bit ott on the safety 1st approach

but falkland are years out of date and star have never had a good rep(not my own personal experience)
and as for dastek, i wouldn't let them service a fiesta, was talking to the guy that claimed to do their mappingat crail couple years back and was nearly rolling about the floor laughing at the joker, he clearly didn't have a clue, i knew more than him and i'm no expert at management systems
but please feel free to make your own mistakes as i dont want to start tuner wars

I've been to AVA 3 times now I think, and I'm not convinced by them, they seem to have some customers who are very happy but I expect they are happy because they have told AVA to do everything, rather than just a setup. I went out of necesity and I wont be returning, but thats probably cause I'm moving to Sussex and will be learning calibration myself over the next 2 years.
JAmes.
