just been offerd a very nice car but its a cat .C. or D and needs mot and v.i.c check.

can you drive the car to v.i.c check if insured moted etc etc..

any info would be gratefull.

plus i need to collect the car aswel so would lke to drive rahter than tow truck it

If its cat d it wont need a vic, if its cat c, you cant drive it without MOT. So tow truck is best.

 

good point!not sure about the vic point!you can drive it to and from a mot test if its pre-booked in a normal situation!but with regards to the vic check i am not sure!

I bought a cat C Corsa 1400 sport from our local salvage yard a few years ago... Put the front bumper back on and changed the head light. Then took it for a MOT, then went the post office to get whatever form it is you need to apply for the docs and the tax application form.
You then need to go to your local dvla office, mines Chester, go with your insurance, Mot, tax application form, any proof you've got that the car's yours.
Its about £18 quid for dupplicate docs, Jobs a gooden. The car is then legal on the road, about 6 weeks later you should get a form through saying you can't have the V5 for this car until its been for a vic check. £36 quid for that and then you should be able to apply for the docs...
Once Vic checked, you can apply for the £18 quid back you spent on appling for the docs
Vic check doesn't inspect the repair work carried out... they only check the car over to make sure its the right car, ie ringer, cut and shut etc... takes less than 10 mins

 

I buy and sell accident damaged vehicles. If the car requires a vic, it must be mot'd and insured before it can be VIC'd, you can drive it to and from a pre arranged VIC check without road tax, the vehicle must be of clean condition and able to be moved under its own power. VIC takes about 10 mins, they just check the chassis numbers. Its just to make sure its the same vehilce repaired ad not a stolen one bearing the damaged vehicles identity

 

Not exacty accurate mate. basicaly, buy the car, repair it, mot it. Fill out a VIC1 (can download it from VOSA website) form and send it along with your payment of £38 to your local VOSA office. they will then contact you with your appointment.

Attend appointment, Pass VIC check and you will be issued with a pass certificate, this is also sent electronically to DVLA. you can then apply for the V5 logbook, there is no fee to pay as it is all included in the price of the VIC.

If you need to tax it before you receive log book just take MOT, insurance and a V62 (V5 application) to post office, tick box saying you dont have V5 as it was destoryed by insurance being a CAT C, this eliminates you from the £25 replacement V5 fee.

 

If it hasnt got MOT it cant be VIC checked.

the post above is wrong,
i am 101% sure of this in regards to
1 the car does not need to be insured to get a vic test
2 the mot can be done either before or after the vic test
i know this because i work in this industry and have done many many cars needing vic tests

 

In future I would read the original question before contradicting one of the answers mate, he asked what was required for a vehicle to be DRIVEN to a vic check. That is what my answers were based on.

the following information is taken directly from the VOSA website

7 If the car is to be driven to the VIC it must comply with the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use)
Regulations 1986 and the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989, have a valid MOT Certificate if it
is 3 years old or over and the person driving the car must be covered by insurance to do so.

8 If you need to obtain number plates for a car with a VIC marker, please contact VOSA’s National
Number on 0870 60 60 440.
9 A car may be taken to the VIC on a trailer but arrangements must be made in advance with the VIC

site manager.
All cars must be capable of being driven under their own power.

 

Who said anything about transporting the vehicle??? he asked about it being DRIVEN to the test.
