Massive thanks are due to someone ive never met from PF.
Ive been pulling my hair out for the last 6 months as we have badly needed a new telephone system installing at my business presmises so we can better prioritise calls and be more informed about who is calling and which of my 2 companies they require.
Through chatting about options available to me on a PF topic, a chap called SaffManLee startedto give me some extremely interesting advice about telephones ad how i could achieve my aims without changing phone numbers. It soon transpired this fella has an exceptionally high level of knowledge and knows more about telecomunications than i could even scratch the surface of.
After a quick agreement, Lee got on with planning me a pretty future proof system and advising me how to get my network working properly so i could better deploy some IP phones and control all my options from the master Pc.
We now have phones in each office, 2 in the workshop, two in reception, wireless options for all stations in case we need to chat on the move, a phone in reception that allows customers to contact us if we done seem to be around to deal with them personally, and many many more great features!
When you call us now, you are presented with 4 calling options.
1) Motorsport Developments sales.
2) Evolution Chips sales.
3) Workshop and Technical support.
4) Evolution Chips Agents.
+ 1 Dedicated lunchtime message explaining when we are re-open and offering voicemail options.
+ 1 Dedicated Out of business hours message explaining when we are re-open and offering voicemail options.
The system has a million and 1 features that i cant begin to try and type out, but basically it routes to the correct person every time you call and choose an option that suits you best and we can see what option the caller chose on the screen too thus the call can be answered in the correct manner. If we are unavailable each option also has its own voicemail box for easy retrieval later. If we make an outgoing call, it even routes the call to the fax line first so as not to take up important incoming lines, then swops to least used lines if fax is busy.
The point of my topic?
1) It is a blatent advert to reassure people who cant get hold of us that we are trying to resolve it and it should be improving.
2) To thank Lee for all his amazing help and advice. He configured the guts of this system at home for me, so that when he shipped it, most of the IPs etc were pre assigned and wouldnt conflict with existing equip, and he ever recorded the 7 different voicemail messges for me. I have offered to pay him for his time on top of the agreed equipment price, and he wont accept a penny, even though he has just hung up from me at this time of night with yet another stupid run of questions from me about how to get the phones to display "Stewart Sanderson office" if i transfer a call elsewhere. And this is one of MANY long calls we have had. And there WILL be more.
Lee, top top man. Your level of both product knowledge and un selfish kindness is a rarity nowadays pal, you have been a pleasure to deal with. Thank you very much indeed.

Jim, what are you wanting out of interest mate.
I have a SIP account with www.sipgate.co.uk this give me an 0845 number and a number local to where I live. I have a softphone jobby on my PC and a phone I can take any where in the world and still have my local number.
The one for Stu is able to take analogue lines/ISDN and has a LAN uplink that goes into Stus network.

yeah 1 uplink to his LAN and each phone has a lan connetion. The phones can act as switches too so you could shove a pc into the back of it to save on cabling.
All pretty good stuff, supports VLAN's and Qos plus addressing from a DHCP server and the likes.
Do you do much with Cisco mate? just finished of my CCNA the other month.

i know how to type "en" would like to get into it at some point, but don't have the enthusiasm to teach myself in spare time. and if i can be arsed then i'd prefer to get the MCSE first so at the moment im restricted to watching over people's shoulders when theyre fiddling
the switches are all configured already, i just patch em in had some good exposure to the mitel stuff tho, 3300s in particular, all pretty cool stuff and ive only just scratched the surface.

We've got a full Cisco voip network here at work, fooking unreal the features and flexibility they have. We use em as switches which makes patching etc fookin easy and loads quicker (work in IT!)!! We've just rolled out Softphone which works a treat as well!!
