Default how much would it cost to convert a rs turbo to cosworth running gear?

been thinking for a while i can get a fairly good condition rs turbo with no engine for no money and also i can get a 2wd cosworth with fooked shell dirt cheap.
how much would a company charge me to put engine into a rs turbo converting to rear wheel drive.
just want a rough estimate really! obviousy they would have to do the prop tunnel etc!

I doubt you'd be doing the project for less than 10 grand.

I've said before i don't really see the point in doing it....the conversion will weigh about the same as a sierra anyway, so unless you REALLY like the look of an escort, then why bother?? lol.

A company would have to charge lots to do it properly.

I know of a chap who wants to get rid of a RWD converted mint Escort shell, if only I had the running gear etc and know how to buy it off him and do myself..

IIRC the last shell I saw for sale went for over Ł2k

I agree. Focus would be a much better starting point.

the basic work is still the same its just that the focus has had 10 years more design advance, and quality parts supply is readily available

as above, do a focus, really want to do one myself, but can see myself get out of control with it, rather than just doing a nice converison.

white focus RS with a stg 3 YB, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Andrew G does them for a couple of grand if you supply the shell!

Mentally cheap, pain in the arse going to scotland and back with the shell, but when you get it back its just a case of bolting the bits in, it WILL all fit as he has done so many now he knows the score inside and out.

Actually WONT all fit. See Focos thread in resto section. Diff mounts were half inch out and there was a cross member in the way of the propshaft that they had to cut out and re plate, all after they had just had the underside painted. Doh.

At least you have the engine more or less sorted now, so just need to turn it around, as the zetec would be fine for it

realisticlly your looking at 3 k for the shell prep alone,

i know because im building one and done a shit load of mailing ect , your options are

danny b at adreniline

sevs ,

and whilst andy gallacher could no doubt do it , hes not yet converted a rst ,

you could also try , big geoff at chorley st garages

and also swifty ( username on here ) as he converted his on mk3 escort ,

i was fortunate to get hold of a full converted 4x4 shell wich is currently sitting in the garage awaiting getting started , i wont say how much i paid, but its in three rather than four figures lol

they do come up on ebay now and then ,

if im honest, im gooing 400 + bhp , rwd ,

i reckon i wont have any change out of 15 k , when im done ,

but , it will be the car that I want , all the touuches i want , ect ,

ill be keeping a fully detailed list of whats spent lol

beef

The problem you have with the majority of conversions, especially if you have bought it from ebay is how can you gaurentee it is straight?

If you chop the front end out of a sierra and weld it onto the the front of an escort you will find it very hard to keep it all square in both planes.

Really you need to fabricate a simple jig to ensure that the front crossmember mounts are square with the rear beam mounts.
